Ah, wow.. Hadn't heard a thing about any protests. Probably would have been there with them if I knew.

More "teabag" fun, looks like to me. Notice the absence of any non-white people. These are mostly whipped up by right-wing radio so the left wing cable news ignores it, I guess.

Pete21,

You are right about the nature of the protests...now. I read a report today that said Obama's approval rating is dropping (it's around 58 percent) and is at about the same place GW's was at the same time in his presidency. The only president he is higher than is Clinton. Yet 90 percent of Democrats still support him (I am independent, but have voted for either Green party or Dems (including Obama)).

Yet how long is that 90 percent going to hold? The way I see it, if the economy continues to be in the popper (as I think it will), that 90 percent is going to start losing patience with Obama.

What I think is coming is something of a populist movement, where average citizens from both the Left and the Right start coming together and finding a new target---the elites, as represented by Washington (Obama included) and Wall Street.

The question that remains to be seen is will the Left and Right be able to put aside their differences in worldview in order to come together in a populist revolt? This is where I have some doubts in my theory.

Regardless, I do think that Sarah Palin is going to represent the Right Wing Populist idea (even if she will ultimately get into bed with big business, her personal story is definitely one of being one of the "people"). If she was brilliant (which I don't think she is), she'd find some sort of "man of the people" from the Left as her VP and throw out some of the rhetoric of her ideological worldview.

In the end, I am keeping a watch on the populist spirit (one that has risen its head many times in times of change in American history) and also on the message and actions of Miss Palin. I have even made the prediction to friends that she will be President in 2012, though I am not sure how much I believe it. Still, I can logically argue it, so it must be true!

nihonwalker are you being serious about Sarah Palin ?

I see her as having very little grasp of the reality of International politics and will undoubtedly try and impose her own Christian intelligent design mindset on any situation. THis is dangerous. with the Bush era we have seen how trying to impose a fixed ideology on the world is a dangerous and ultimately destructive thing to do. She will only benefit big business and the elite as all right wingers tend to do. I'm not saying that the left are any better but at least they start out with some understanding of life of those with little in our society

Default Take the red pill

Left right white black! We have to start thinking for ourselves and not allow ourselves to be directed down the same outdated, threadbear, dead-end, bullshit thought processes the mainstream media just love see us tangled up in. Take the red pill guys... and when you find a dealer let me know so I can score some too.

Unfortunately, I am being serious about her. Considering enough Americans voted for Bush for him to become president (I think both elections he was given some help to win, so I hasten to say "elected"), I don't think it matters that Palin has little grasp over international politics. Plus, she's got a few years to study up and at least sound as though she knows what she's talking about.

And when she slips up and the media jumps on her for it? She will play the "elites are after me" card.

I don't have a crystal ball, and I pray that I am wrong, but I've been accurate in the past about the shape of things to come in U.S. politics.

Ultimately, I suspect that this era is going to be one of big changes, many of them hard ones for the average American, so just because it seems hard to conceive now, I don't think that precludes it from happening in a few years.
