View Full Version : 3 branches per node, mutation?

This is a plant that I am growing from a Joey Weed mix. Yesterday I noticed that nodes 4 and above all have 3 branches per node instead of the usual 2 per node. Has anyone ever seen this before? Is it a mutation or a characteristic of the strain? What will this do for my yield?

Ive never seen anything like that...pretty damn cool though, i wonder too if its just the strain or a one of a kind, clone that sucka

It is a mutation, and a fantastic one at that. Clone it! Very very lucky :)

Unfortunately it's a male, but it is such an amazing plant I am going to save some pollen and make some seeds.

Sorry about it being a male. :(
Those definitely happen from time to time...great to keep as a mom...cloner's dream for sure. :)
Best,

Thanks for your replys. I saved a normal looking clone from that plant. It had the normal 2 branch configuration for the first 2 nodes then started doing 3 like its dad. I noticed that the top will lay over to the side, as in the picture, then it appears to leave the lower leaf with bottom node and the top leaf will join with the next node. Kind of bizarre. Looking forward to seeing if this trait can be passed on through seed.

I found this interesting information about my plant from the Mandala seeds site (http://www.mandalaseeds.com/html/faq.html). Their site has some great growing info.
Mutations
• My plant has three internodes and shoots instead of two.
Trifoliates or triploids are common to cannabis as a plant species. They possess three sets of chromosomes instead of the usual two. Approx. 2% of the population in Mandala strains exhibit this trait. So for every 100 seeds there are max. 2 plants. About 60% of trifoliates turn out to be males. From the females you have 20% with a higher yield than normal (due to the extra node and vigour), 20% are just under average, and the rest are normal performers.

That's very interesting thanks.
