I just recieved a 1000 watt HPS ballast and an EASYCOOL 6 Reflector from High Tech Gardening Supply. I havn't got the bulb yet so i was wondering if anyone has used this particular brand of ballast and/or reflector? How Did you like it? was the ballast reliable? I noticed that my ballast actually has a screw in fuse, how do I replace that if nesscesary?

Well if the fuse screws in then logic would say to un-screw it to replace it.
Not sure about them but most standard transformers work the same. Its the case and cooling features that make the difference. Did you get the glass with your hood? What size blower did you have to cool it?
If you have a link someone can take a look for you.

My 400w hps came with a fuse and as zandor said just unscrew to release it, then find an appropriate fuse, although i havent had to change mine yet, had it a good year atleast

cool, sounds good to me.Am I right in assuming it is there as a protection in case of a power surge? Not that I am not using a Surge protector. I was just wondering what the fuses purpose was.
:confused:

The fuse is there to protect what ever is before the fuse in case somthing after the fuse draws too much current.
For example: Your 1000 watt bulb draws about 9 amps in the USA ( or about 4.5 amps in europe). Lets say somthing goes wrong. Somthing falls onto the bulb and breaks the bulbs glass, AND that somthing happens to be metal and shorts out the electrical conductors inside the bulb. Now the bulb will try to draw several times the 9 amps that is normal. In this case, the fuse will blow out to protect the ballast from tryng to supply the unusually high current that the shorted out bulb is drawing.
I hope that makes sense, it's the best I can do in <100 words.

I've got lights from HTG and I think their ballasts are great for the price. Well put together.

I agree,Upon receiving a new 1000 watt bulb (from the same sight) I ran mine for about 72 hours and monitored it with an electronic light meter. I noticed no fluctuation in the amount of light being distributed.
the ballast runs really well.
My result;
High Yield Lighting makes a damn good reflector and ballast combination for a very good price.I would buy from that sight again .I recommend the GrowBright 1000watt HPS ballast as well as the EasyCool 6 reflector for a good, economical lamp.

yeah this is my first 1k system...i've tried high output cfl's by hydrofarm with mediocre results, as well as various 400w system, but I am looking forward to starting with the 1k lamp.
