Hey Everyone,
Lets say you want to make some seeds. Also, limited flowering space. Is it productive to keep the boys and girls in 12/12 together while the flowers develop. Then, before the male pollen sacs open, pull the males out of the flower room and just keep them in ambient light. I know this would be stress on the male plants. But who cares at this point, I just want a little pollen. I guess my question is, would the sacs open and yield useable pollen?
It would be real handy to get this answer kind of quick.
Thanks,

Sup, SF. :)
I've never collected pollen, but I don't think its that hard. In my experience, DO NOT keep the males with the females unless you want your females pollinated. I don't think you can predict when a pod will pop and spoil your crop. You have air blowing in flowering room, which means mobile pollen. :)
My advice...remove the males as soon as you see the first sack. This goes for hermaphrodite plants too. See a sack ever...move to a separate location.

I don't want to give bad advice, but here is what I have "heard" in the past.
Keep a male in a separate location, and that means SEPARATE remember that nature uses wind and animals to spread pollen, in an indoor grow with big intakes and exhaust you need to make sure the male producing pollen has no chance of crossing paths with the intake on the female plants.
There is a way to pollenate just one branch (the lowest one) very carefully so your female will have only one branch of seed. I think Zandor has talked about this in the past, but I can't remember.
Hopefully someone that is an expert on this can let you know, but this should get you in the general direction.

I posted a thread here in Theory and Discussion about how to make a filtered box for holding males.
I have used the bag method a few times. Place a large plastic bag over your male, make sure the bottom is tied closed and proceed to shake the plant. This will allow pollen to drop and be caught inside the bag. To pollenate the female just put this bag over the branch/plant you want to be seeded. Secure closed again and shake to distribute pollen over buds. And allow to stand undisturbed for 12-24hrs. After the time is up uncover the branch/plant and spray with water to kill the pollen and keep it from drifting.
I try to move my males outside quite a ways from my neighborhood. I collect pollen in small zip-lock baggies and hand pollenate useing a small artists brush or a Q-tip.
