I'm going to try and make a serious attempt to see the northern lights on northern lights this year! This website offers good guides to aurora activity, and predicts when the best time will be to see it blazing:

Anyone got any advice on watching this crazy shit in the sky?

What lovely images! That will be amazing to watch, mushies or not!

Never very knowledgeable about all things in the heavens, I was inspired to look up what similar lights we may have over the Southern skies and found these:

I've also signed up for an Aurora alert (http://www.ips.gov.au/mailman/listinfo/ips-aurora-alert) for our neck of the woods! :p

Hi Queerninja

I also live in Scotland / Glasgow and the aurora can be seen here, although you would need to travel a bit further north, saying that i have witnessed it in the wilderness outside Glasgow several years ago. if you want to meet up get stoned, go for a drive, get stoned, we might see it, check out links below.

Fantastic! Thanks Big Duke, you could have a deal there man :)

I'll keep an eye on the geo-magnetism chart and give you a shout if it looks promising. I'm not sure how much notice we get, but I'll let you know as soon as I now fella.

At the risk of exposing my geographical incompetence...are the NL ya'll will see in your country be similar or the same as those in Alaska (http://www.fairbanks-alaska.com/northern-lights-alaska.htm)?

Best,

Steel

Yup, they sure are Steel. I don't think geography affects the lights, but it might do!

In the southern hemisphere, they are called Aurora Australis, but I think they are essentially the same.

Do you see them often where you are man? (jealous ;))

I wish (I sure do say that a lot), QN. :) I'm seriously South East of that region of the US. I must find a friend in Alaska to go visit, since possession of one ounce or less of marijuana in the privacy of the home is legal, and possession of less than 25 plants is protected under the Alaska Constitution’s right to privacy. :D

Thanks for clarifying that they are the same lights. :)
