After searching this and other forums, I am still looking for an answer: how can I get denser buds?
I'm posting this in the hydro forum because that's my preferred grow method.
This isn't my first grow, I'm not a newbie, but I've never managed to get those thick, dense buds that I groove to. I've heard this is because of nutrients, lights, grow method, and a dozen other answers. What I'm looking for is someone with a lot of experience who can tell me, definitely, what to do in order to get denser buds.

It depends on the strain doesn't it or something to do with lighting, you want to start a grow with a blue spectrum like metal hollide then switch to a red spectrum light like a sodium light when it comes up to the flowering stage. It's something like that anyway, not too sure.

I tried that on my last grow: veg under a 400w metal halide then flower under a 400w high pressure sodium. The buds were still loose....maybe I timed the move from one light to another wrong?
My strain is ok, because the seeds came out of dense buds.
It must be something I'm doing, but I can't figure out what. Thanks for the input.

I think the tightest nugs I ever grew were Romulan and the fluffiest were Big Bud.
What are you growing now and have you considered using COČ (http://thegrowreport.com/Forums/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=4685) , It might help some :)

higher humidity should do it,
but not so high that you get mould,
also, get plenty of nutrients in it, boosters are available.

i dont know to be honest but what i do know, keeping your plants at the same level will keep lighting even and allow your cola buds to bunch up and become tight.

Right now I'm growing a couple strains I got from a friend. I sampled it extensively before deciding to grow it, so I know it's good and what the buds should be like. They're hybrids, very much like White Widow, leaning slightly more to the indica side. The buds he grew were seriously dense; but that was outside in dirt. I have never been able to achieve that inside with my hydro setup.
I haven't considered using CO2 yet, but maybe that's the way to go......

I hear that! OK, I'm changing my setup to raise the humidity, and I bought some new nutrients: AN Connoisseur. This is the first time I've used anything besides FloraNova, so I may seek advice on that when I get to the bloom stage.

I've had problems keeping them at the same level in the past, I think I have a solution that will work this time so this is another piece of advice I'm going to try. Thanks.

I haven't tried that yet; I'd like to but I'm on a limited budget.
If anyone has tried it, please let the rest of us know your results, it looks interesting.

Densest buds I've grown were Chronic. They are really susceptible to mould though so good control over the humidity is needed.
