View Full Version : My I-inhale Review.

When I heard the I-Inhale on the Dopecast the other week, I knew what I wanted for Christmas. Unfortunately the wife declared she was fed up of buying me what she regards as outlandish presents and said if I wanted one then I'd have to get it myself (she did previously get me my volcano!!:D. Well....that was too much temptation and I decided to treat myself. Went to order and...out of stock. Damn! Logged on a few days later and much to my delight I saw they where in stock again. I ordered Wednesday afternoon.
Joined the chat room the other night and as I am not used to this skype thing yet (not been in the chat for ages as I thought Skype was solely voice based. Felt a right prat a week ago when I logged in with headset and mic!) I thought Dopefiend was online and so sent a message asking a rough delivery time etc. Eventually realised he was not actually there at the time and logged off.
Slightly disappointed when I saw his message the next day (Thursday) saying it would be four to five days as I was hoping to muck about with it over the weekend.
Got an email telling me it was posted and due to DFs message presumed it was coming second class.
It arrived today (Friday).
Around twenty minutes ago I gave it a go. I am one of those lazy types who doesn't read instruction manuals and jumps straight in. Did glance at the quick start guide which is basically four pictures depicting what you do.
Had read in another post that it was fidgety to fill up with gas and would agree.....but then after glancing at the proper instruction manual (which is only about four pages long!) I realised it was my fault as I had attached one of the butane attachments to it and thats why I was having problems. Once I removed that it was easy. I am not good with my hands but this wasn't difficult at all.
Then filled the herb chamber and started it.
Five minutes after use I began to feel a low level buzz. If this was it then I could not disagree that it did work but would regard it as disappointing and maybe regard it as less strong as a joint and what's the point in that.
Fifteen minutes in and all I can say is that I love this machine! Very nicely stoned and would say the effect is almost as good as volcano vapour. The thing is easy to use, very discreet (which means my Christmas is going to be FAR more enjoyable!) and (to me) the vapour was less tickly on the throat than the volcano.
Over all I am very impressed. I know there has been a lot of dispute over some of the rave reviews this item is getting but I assure you it is a really good piece of kit.
Secretly chuffed I am one of the first to review this item as I used to be a regular poster but have not been around for awhile. I was even at Dopestock 2008 but only about three people on this forum would realise that!
On that matter apologies to Max Freakout. Was really wanting to have a good conversation with him but never got the opportunity...the only time we spoke I am sure in my stoned state I came across as a right dunce!:o

I thought a true portable Vaporiser was years away yet. When I heard Dopefiend talking about them I was excited but sceptical - I thought it would maybe fall apart after a few uses like those Vapir thingies. Looks like I was wrong.
Seems like everybody who has one loves it. I'm delighted to hear you say it's good.
Give it six months or so and I reckon I'll succumb to buying one.

I got mine today as well and absolutely love this thing! It is definitely going to change things for the better, i cant recommend it enough. Filling it up was a pain in the ass, and i still dont think ive quite gotten it down but i got it to work and it got me stoned off my ass, not to mention i had taken an entire week off of cannabis so my tolerance was the lowest its been in the past 2 years.

Fill up the cap part instead with the ground herb. I was having trouble filling the little chamber with the metal rod till I thought...why not just fill the top? Easier! When you fill the top, turn the device upside down and insert the cap up into the chamber of the I-inhale.

How is it different? Is it better or worse? Or just different?
Was it the same strain in both devices? :o

I am still having trouble refilling the butane, it keeps squirting everywhere! anyone have any advice?
crowley666
11-08-2008, 07:54 AM
I originally had problems as I attached one of the applications you get with the butane......once I realised that this was not needed and all you require is to insert the little straw of the butane cannister into the i-inhale it was plain sailing though I find it is better to push it in gently and at a very slight angle rather than push he cannister down hard. Thats with the i-inhale being the right way up (with straw upwards) and the butane cannister being inserte upside down into the i-inhale nozzle.
Does that make sense? Yes you lose a little butane but not a lot and not as fidgety as I was expecting after reading other comments.
I have quite a high tolerance at the moment yet three five or so minute blasts throughout last night kept me nicely stoned. And by nicely I mean more heavily stoned than not!!:D
Ditto, my tolerance is at the nuclear end of the scale but this little fella gets me adequately fucked. Im on it as i type this.
Re. the different high: I find the vape high more intense, clean and much longer lasting than smoked.

this along with dopefiends reviews are making me sit up and take notice ,my previous comments on the exhaust system and my concerns with carbon monoxide exhaust fumes are now beginning to subside ...not once anywhere on the net have i read about anyone actually noticing the fumes which must be a good thing ..i will be watching closely the rise of the i-inhale ,and maybe when the time is right and money is a bit more readily available i will puchase one ..this really could be the start of the future for cannabis consumption ..
thanks for the review man .:)

Just returned from a trip out with it. Still think its a fantastic machine but may have to revise my opinion about refilling it as the last time I thought I'd filled it I had not! So filling it is very slightly fiddly but still not too great a chore. Twice now I have had the mouthpiece falling off so must start learning never to hold it that way. Must agree with an earlier comment about attaching a holding clip in future models but over all these are minor quibbles in what I still think is a great machine which really does the job!

These are my biggest complaints as well, ive lost the mouthpiece three times so far..both times creating a huge mess. And i also have the problem of thinking i filled it up but then it does nothing when i try and fire it up. no matter what i do i just cant get the butane to not spill everywhere. I try pressing lightly but get the same result as if i press it firmly. i hope i get the hang of this.
oh forgot to mention that sometimes after switching it off, it tends to go through a few more heating cycles before finally shutting down. Anyone else have this problem?
last of all i discovered that taking the moisture condenser out of the mouthpiece makes it significantly easier to draw but makes the hit much much harsher on the through. It does give bigger hits however so you dont have to take as long a draw as you would with the condenser in there.

oh forgot to mention that sometimes after switching it off, it tends to go through a few more heating cycles before finally shutting down. Anyone else have this problem? This happened to me once also but I think it's the switch. That time I noticed that it hadn't stayed all the way to the "0" instead it had slided back a couple of mm. not once anywhere on the net have i read about anyone actually noticing the fumes which must be a good thing I noticed the fumes from the first time I switched it on. There is clearly something coming out of the front of the device (the grill thing) while it's heating up. It would be good to know what it is at least. But as long as I don't have it near my face as it is heating up I'm fine. The hits are going to be at their hottest just after the heating stops anyway, so there is no point in inhaling during the warm-up. I'll second the idea of removing the condensation filter as well, it draws much easier then. I find that the hits are very powerful though so I take small tokes and hold them. The stealthiness is what gets me though, it's amazing!

It's actually the thermostat dispelling the residual gas. It takes up to 3 minutes, according to the manual, but i've only ever known it to last about a minute.

I'm pretty sure what you're talking about it actually the first clouds of vapour released when the element is first heating up. It won't have any real THC content to it because the temperature wouldn't be hot enough that early on, so it's probably mostly steam from whatever tiny bit of moisture there is left in the herb. I really doubt it's the exhaust, as it never happens after the initial heat-up of a fresh herb chamber. I've never noticed any gas smell or anything like that.

They did test the tube for carbon monoxide according to the DF's last podcast. So I assume if they took the time t fail a tube due to too much, then they made a baseline test for the initial test with no tube.
They seem like a good company so I wonder if they will follow the customer service attitude like the volcano people have.

No, there is clearly something coming out of the front of the device, not the tube. Of course there is going to be exhaust, any type of combustion has some type of exhaust. It is not vapor, I tried it completely empty and I get the same thing, it is definitely a byprodyct of the butane reaction. All you have to do is give it a sniff on the front while it is *whooshing*, it's unmistakable.
But it is not an issue as I say since it doesn't contaminate the tube that you suck from and there is no need to inhale from the nose while it expelling this exhaust. Still, it would be nice to know what it is.

Got to try an I-inhale yesterday!!!
A friend had bought one from the vapefiend site rang me to say he was having problems filling it. So he brought it over, seems the gas pisses out as you fill it, a bit like some lighters. No problem tho! 1 minuete later we was vaping out hahah. At first I was thinking mmm duno about this but then as the I-inhale warmed up after about 5 mins it really took on a whole new life WOW!!!
I usaly recrumble my weed half way thru with my volcano so done this too with the I-inhale and burnt my finger enough to blister it on the inside metal chamber trying to refil with recrumbled weed ouch!! Prob just me fumbling exitement but defo be carefull with that bit.
Any way after the recruble now the vape was fantastic blowing out small couds of vapour on the exhale.
We shared the first chamber my friend was mashed said hed be ok for more as he had to drive later so i hit a whole chamber to my self LOVELY!! I could get well used to this takes loads less than volcano lasts like a spliff tastes great what else can i say the I-inhale gets the Farmux seal of aprove I shall be buying one very soon.

I definetely agree that there is some kind of exhaust during the heating period, i try to keep the device away from my face during this time tho cuz you can smell the fumes while they are being expelled.
How big of a bowl do you guys usually use? i cant seem to get it just right and sometimes end up burning it pretty early on, maybe i need let the herb heat up a lil more before drawing.

it sounds like it would be safest to use outside, or in a ventilated room, but you should avoid hotboxing with it.
certainly anyone who lives in a city breathes a reasonable bit of burned fossil fuel exhaust every day.

I have had mine for about 3 weeks now and I am noticing that it always turns on fine, but when it reheats sometimes it does not light up well or have that loud roar. I know it has fuel it in because I have become an expert on filling it now. I am thinking it has something to do with the type of butane. Not sure if the regular butane I am using is clogging up the works or what. I also noticed that the grill area where the catalytic conversion happens seems like it might be warping as it's a little more separated that the rest. Not at all noticeable because I asked my girl if she could see it and she thought I was crazy. I know I see it's a little warped, but only time will tell if this will be a problem.

OK Just got back from the Hemp Expo where I had a long chat with the I-Inhale team. They'll be posting all the full scientific data online very soon, but the exhaust fumes from the I-Inhale have been tested and they're made up of carbon dioxide and water vapour: so nothing to get worried about. The exhaust vent is also completely separated from the herb chamber/heating mechanism, so it's very hard to inhale exhaust fumes while inhaling through the mouthpiece, and even if you do, it wouldn't do you any harm.

Hi guys, I posted this in the new Dopecast thread but thought that it may be better placed here:
A great episode from the dopefiend but some of his words regarding the I-Inhale worried me slightly. Referring to the manufacturers he said:
22mins20seconds in:
"They had problems at one point during testing because some silocon tubing kind of contaminated the results and gave much higher carcinogen readings than the normal mouth piece on its own"
Can anyone explain this as I'm sure he assured us in previous episodes that special plastic is used in the I-Inhale and for this reason, using it would not result in inhalation of any carcinogens?
Any responses will be greatly appreciated :)

you're right seedeaze, the i-inhale itself gives off no carcinogens, but when the testers used some form of silicone tubing to collect vapour from the unit in early testing, they found high levels of carcinogens, indicating that the silicone tubing was carcinogenic, giving rise to concerns about silicone tubing being sold with the I-Inhale by some retailers without thorough testing.

This is a good sign because it shows that the company cares about its product. My vaporizer has teflon pieces to it. The reason a good high quality vaporizer cost as much is because of the high quality materials it uses. Typically materials found in cookery or applications requiring high temperature surfaces.
As I recall some vaporizer that was selling on ebay called the Vaporbuddy (knock off) contained lead paint from china. The real deal vaporizer pipes Vapor genie had independant test page from LA Labs (I have visited their web site a few times) however it has been removed from the site for whatever reason.
Read the commercial vape section and read the sticky product warning and recalls to get the low down on it.

So far I have shown my iInhale to six people and asked them to guess what it was.
One had no idea. Four said a walkie talkie, and one said a GPS device.
It has to be the first piece of pot-related equipment where people can hold it in their hand and have no idea what it is! :D
On the train, with the device in an inside pocket, I can turn my head to my lapel and inhale without the person sitting next to me even noticing.
The speed and convenience with which a Volcano gets THC into your system can still not be matched by any other vapouriser in my view, but as far as portable devices go, the iInhale is about the most effective and discrete device I can imagine.
My one criticism is the choice of name/positioning of the name on the case. You see when someone sees the little neoprene case and even opens it, they still probably won't know what the device is, but when they see "iInhale" it's naturally going to get them wondering if it's something to do with toking...

Thanks for your response Dopefiend, just to clear this up as your words of "much higher readings than the normal mouth piece on its own" certainly got me worried as this would indicate that the normal mouth piece does produce some carcinogens.
So you can confirm that the normal mouth piece on its own releases absolutely zero carcinogens?
If so then may I suggest that you mention this on the next Dopecast as I am sure that there are many others that took your words as meaning that the normal mouth piece does produce some carcinogens.
Other than that great show and you are a hero to our community :D

well seedease, not being an expert in these matters, I didn't want to say that the I-Inhale produces absolutely zero carcinogens because I don't know if that's true... I would've thought that more or less everything gives off some level of carcinogen, but that there's a safe level below which they're not counted.
Maybe someone else has a better understanding of this area? I'm still waiting on the actual documentation from I-inhale, but they're pre-occupied with this weekend's Cannabis Cup so I'm finding it hard to contact them right now.

I think the tube debate is a non issue. This week I bought my I-inhale from that US vapor web site that is distributing the product. I showed up at their warehouse in Oakland to pick up by willcall.
At the warehouse, I expressed my concerns with the supervisor about the tube that ships with their I-inhale. The supervisor responded by stating that they provide the same medical grade tubing that they use to build their Vapor Tower product. He then pointed over to the table of senior women busy assembling vaporizers. They feel that all of their products should be up to standards for medical use.
I feel that as long as the tubing meets those standards then it is totally safe. Perhaps the tubing that the I-inhale staff reviewed was not medical grade and did not meet those standards.

Ok thanks Dopefiend, I have already ordered one as I know they work good after trying out Pinky's at the Hemp Expo and even if some carcinogens are released, it is certainly going to have less negative health effects than smoking the good herb.
I plan to keep all of the vape poop that it produces and then re-use when I start working again and can afford a Volcano. I think it would be interesting to compare the effects between the two and I'm sure the results will vary depending on the strain used.
One last question :D I ordered from your Vapefiend.com site, any idea when you will get your next batch of stock in?

Though it doesn't really bother me, I'm pretty happy just using the mouthpiece.
Same here! Works just fine and it looks much more discreet using the regular mouthpiece.

Mine has officially busted. :( Well it works, but the damn thing does not turn on when it hisses after the first one. I have to basically click the piezo button each time I hear the hiss. I am going to have to send it to I-inhale. I believe this is due to getting it wet during cleaning. I have had to clean the actual unit because I got hash melted through the screen and pin which got the whole thing dirty. I checked the manual and it does not state any kind of warning about water so hopefully I don't get into it with them over this. I will let you guys know how it turns out. A little tip for all. Avoid any hash in this device unless you want a mission cleaning the mouthpiece and screens.:(

Just to give you guys a little update. I just spoke with the guys at I-Inhale and they are going to send me a replacement as soon as they receive my broken one. They were pretty nice and apologized for not getting back to me. They apparently close 2 weeks during the holidays. I mentioned that I thought it might be water damaged, but he stated water should not be an issue and will be looking into this. Hopefully if they do find this to be an issue they find a way of water proofing whatever might have broken. This will not be found out until they look over my I-inhale. I will let you guys know how everything turns out.
