Hey all,
I'm brand new to the forum (this is first post) and relatively new to the podcasts. After the first few episodes of the Dopecast, I was convinced that I needed to get a vaporizer. My wife has pretty bad asthma, and smoking does not help. In fact, she is allergic and everytime she touches it to pack a bowl or anything, she has to wash immediately or she starts itching and scratching. Strangely though, smoking it is no problem. It's the same with potatoes...she can't touch raw potatoes, but cooked they're fine.

Now that we have a vaporizer, when we vape, she exhibits allergy symptoms. Airway gets restricted and it's pretty bad. It seems that smoking it must burn whatever allergen that is effecting her and vaping isn't.

Anyone ever heard of anything like this before and have a suggestion?

I get a touch of hayfever symptoms when vaping, especially with sativas. Either try vaping indicas, or take some allergy tablets like ceterizine hydrochloride.

..I agree. Same thing observed, but symptoms are very mild for me. I have also noticed that if the herb is older or more thoroughly cured, the potency is the same, but the allergy response is reduced.

I suggest wearing gloves. I don't really have any alergies but when I get kief or powdered resin on my skin it irritates it and causes the area to break out in hives.

mmmmm first of do you know what sort of weed your getting? indica or sativa or a mix? does it have seeds? (seeds are a sign its not sensimilla which means there was males around at time of growing and therefore more pollen which wouldn't help any hayfever) try taking a hayfever table for a couple of days or so and see if it helps? also if you can get different weed ie if you have indica try a sativa or viceversa and see if there's any difference there

Not really sure of indica or sativa. It seems to be worse with the greener bud. She didn't have as much trouble with some brown schwag we had. Now we have some better bud (Master Jack, W. Cali Red, and GDP (whatever that stands for)), the allergy symptoms seem to be worse. I think that Kennibis had the right idea. "I have also noticed that if the herb is older or more thoroughly cured, the potency is the same, but the allergy response is reduced."
The fresher the bud, the worse the allergies are. I will try and dry some out real good and see if that helps.

ive been doing a bit more thinking after reading what you said, and i was wondering do you know if it was flushed at the end of flowering? if it wasn't maybe its not to do so much with the weed but the nutrients etc that was used in growing?

OR

it could be something to do with clorafil or one of the other parts of the plant that disappear (or at least drop to a much lower level) as the plants dried and cured fully

I have no idea if it was flushed properly or cured long enough or properly. I'm not one of the lucky people that has a good reliable source. I seem to spend more time looking for it than anything, so i am really at the mercy of my environment. Whatever is available has to do. Most of the time I have no idea what it is or where it came from. And I rarely get my hands on really good kind bud....occasionally get the name of the strain...but not usually. :(:(

Dr. Bob Melamede says that cannabis isn't good for everyone.

I have a friend that use to break out with hives when he consumed cannabis. Needless to say he quit.

But there is no issue when she smokes it. Just when she touches it raw or now vaporizes it. Is that a 'red flag' that means it's not good for her and she shouldn't smoke it? Or just another hurdle?

Lucky for her she has a thoughtful, loving husband who usually packs 'em for her. And if not, she just has to wash her hands after touching it and she's fine. A little inconvenient, but not enough to stay away from it. It has so many benefits.

I have allergies also...I put up with it. If your weed is an outdoor or indoor grow makes a difference. An outdoor grow picks up alot of other pollens from it's neighbors, as well as flavors.

im in the same boat i get crap under weight under flowered with seeds leafs and stems plus its always not dried out so it still has a load of crap in it and i have to play the mold game (get it and dry it asap before the mold starts as its so wet) anyway im rambling

another idea came to me that would be worth a go to see if there's any difference, is it worse at the beginning of a bowl? if it is maybe you could start a bowl and she could finish it

im thinking maybe that the more the bowl is vaped the less there is of the pollen or what ever is causing it, so in turn it wont be as bad for her?

ive tried to do so quick look on the net and from my quick look i think it might be to do with the pollen, does she get hayfever? is she trying some hayfever tablets like said above? noticed any difference?

also i was thinking this may be a question for double doc on BB's bungalow, (when she comes back from her trip) see this thread http://www.thegrowreport.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=355&page=3

Well, we typically fill a bag...and I really only get one bag out of a bowl. I guess i could try re-vaping some vapo-poo and see if those remnants affect her too.

I am mildly allergic to steel, which sometimes makes my skin go a bit blotchy for an hour or so if I inhale through steel things.

I have mild pollen allergies that seem to have gotten worse since I started vaping regularly (almost a year ago). Also I get symptoms that are similar to my allergies the day after vaping. But recently I have been vaping without exhaling through the nose. This has made a big difference so I am thinking that the vapour has been irritating my sinuses.Hope this helps!

THis may sound kind of stupid but what if you tried vaping at a slightly higher temperature? It might be able to vaporize whatever is causing her allergies to act up.
