I'm new to the vape scene (having used one only once - with help - at Dampkring several years ago). My new whip vape came with an adjustable built-in thermostat/gauge - but I am doubtful that the temp is accurate (as I reside over a mile above sea level, the boiling points of various things is also somewhat different). Any ideas on how to establish what the actual temp is, using household supplies? :D Like...I have a great cookie thermometer and some aluminum foil?

One of those laser thermometers intended for barbecue grills would be ideal, but I figured I'd see if there were any DIY ideas before springing for a high tek solution...

what unit is it? If I knew I could probably tell you what temp to set it at better. generally cannabis starts to vaporizer reasonably well at 350f. 370 is the optimum range and carbonization or burning starts to occur at 450F.

Generally 1 mile of elevation usually means a degree or two. Nothing major. I live half a mile below sea level and whenever I travel to BC up in the mountains I notice zero difference unless your go so high up that its hard to breathe. then I might think you might notice a difference.

Thanks for the reply! It's a vaporinc whip box, digital with ceramic element. I can recommend the product (85% positive recommendation from me), but not the dealer, due to some delivery/paypal issues. Good entry level box, though, IMO. Thanks, too, for the temp tips. I usually start a bit lower - in theory about 315 and work up. I do start higher, the older - and more baked - the contents get. There is some droppage upon inhale, of course - and slower increase above the set temp. My problem is, though, that I don't trust the accuracy of the thermometer on this unit. It's kind of a manual tweak. :)

yea you kinda have to play around with temp controll especially for the box vapes.
