View Full Version : Coming Up on the C-Realm Podcast
http://pics.livejournal.com/kmo/pic/00043g8p
How much interview material should I record, and how far in advance? It feels a little strange when I put out a podcast built around an interview that I recorded weeks ago. At the same time, it really sucks to have to scramble around for last minute interviews on those Wednesdays when I wake up and realize I have nothing recorded for the podcast. Having been caught flat footed on episode #52 (thank you to Michelle Espinosa and A. Andrew Gonzalez for stepping in at the last minute)I've recorded enough material for episodes 53 thru 55 including interviews with:
Prof. Albert Bartlett (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_bartlett), a retired physics professor and modern-day Malthusian appeared on episode #33 (http://kmo.livejournal.com/293698.html) and now returns for a deeper discussion. One way or another, argues Prof. Bartlett, we will achieve zero population growth. This is a long interview and is intended as a follow-up to his Exponential Function lecture (http://globalpublicmedia.com/lectures/461). If you haven't heard that lecture yet, you can find it here (http://globalpublicmedia.com/lectures/461).
Carol Ekarius (http://www.carolekarius.com/) is another return guest to the C-Realm Podcast. She joined me for episode #6 (http://www.archive.org/details/Episode6StartSmall) and we talked about living off-the-grid and about keeping animals. She is the author of many books including Hobby Farm, How to Build Animal Housing, and Small-Scale Livestock Farming: A Grass-Based Approach of Health, Sustainability, and Profit. I talked to Carol about keeping backyard chickens as well as her new interest in Toxic Body Burden (http://www.toxicburden.com/).
Mike Hagan (http://www.kopn.org/mike-h.htm) of RadiOrbit (http://www.radiorbit.com/). Mike is the creator and host of a weekly radio show that focuses on much the same subject matter as does the C-Realm Podcast. And his show has been on the air for three years now. I recorded a short conversation with Mike for episode #53. We plan to get together for a more in-depth discussion in the coming weeks. Please send me any questions you'd like me to put to Mike.
And now a question for you good folks; Who would you like to hear me interview for the C-Realm Podcast in the coming weeks?
What topics would you like to hear discussed?
Are there guests from previous shows of whom you'd like to more?
Are there topics that we've already covered that you'd like to have re-examined from a fresh perspective?
What about new guests and new topics?
Help me put out a show that answers to your interests and concerns.
Thanks, all.

and realize that all we have been (programed from the start with isn't actually the way things truly are and we must re-evaluate all historical literature as suspect...anything in print can be assumed to be truth but is it really?)
great talking to you earlier and hope you make the trip someday...open invite to vape and chat anytime...

Welcome KMO :)
There has been a bit of talk in one of the other Dopefiend.co.uk Podcast forums about interviewing Dr Sue Blackmore - perhaps you could swing that one?

Of course, we don't know if KMO or indeed Sue Blackmore want to do an interview, but if they do, this is a question I would love her to talk about:
I know that Dr Blackmore thinks that the notion of free will is an illusory concept. And, consciousness may well be the steam emitted by the brain-machine....but why should consciousness escape the process of evolution? Surely it just gets in the way? What purpose does an illusion serve except for misdirection?
Also (might as well try huh? hehehe...), people often confuse fatalism with determinism. Is the difference purely down to semantics and really whether or not a path was chosen by a creator or determined is on a quantum level, ultimately the same thing? Since on a quantum level the cause behind an effect is meaningless, only the effect is important.
I love you Sue...What's your favourite song? hehehehe!!
Much Love,
QN!

Hey BB!
Yes, I'd very much like to get Susan Blackmore on the show. I went to grad school for philosophy, and my thesis adviser was a big Susan Blackmore fan, so I've been reading her stuff for over a decade. I'd be very excited to talk to her. I'll send her email and see what she says.
Hi KMO, I'd like you to interview Richard Strauss, author of Acelerando.
Hey B_n_T,
I think you probably mean Charles Stross. I invited him many months ago, but it hasn't worked out. I know that at least two personal friends of his are C-Realm listeners, so all hope is not lost.

Hey QN, if I can get Dr. Blackmore on the line, I'll definitely put your questions to her. Thanks, man.

Although many of you probably have not heard of him, I would like to cast in my lot for Christopher Hyatt, PhD.(his real name is Alan Miller, Hyatt is his pen name) He expounds upon such topics as meditation, conscious personality re-creation, magick, nlp, extreme individuality, tantra...the list goes on and on. He is a voluminous writer, and in his professional life he is a psychologist and personal defense instructor as well as the President of New Falcon Press. His work is amazing and I think that he would be an excellent addition to the c-realm experience. :D
I love your show KMO and thanks to Queer Ninja for providing this space for us all to chat.

Cool. Thanks, Larval Magus.
Would you post a link to a good introductory piece to Dr. Hyatt's writing and thought?
Thanks, and stay well.

There have been many guests that I would love to hear more from, A. Andrew Gonzalez sticks out in my mind right now (probably because I heard the interview recently), hearing him describe how he uses psilocybin as a tool was very interesting. Not often do I hear such a detailed description of how a psychedelic has been integrated into a persons life so successfully. Maintaining a healthy long term relationship with these chemicals can be challenging, always inspiring to hear success stories.
A show on memes would be a great idea.....in addition to Susan Blackmore you might try Robert Aunger (www.cus.cam.ac.uk/~rva20/) who wrote an interesting book named "The Electric Meme".
My guest wish list:
Wade Davis: http://www.culturesontheedge.com/about/index.html
Howard Bloom
Mark Pesce: http://markpesce.com/
Some of his audio: http://www.futurehi.net/media.html
The guy from the podcast/blog "Alchemically Braindamaged" (http://uroboros.wordpress.com/) would also make an interesting guest.
An Interview With Hyatt:

I watched the video. Interesting stuff, though it could definitely use some editing and perhaps a bit less alcohol consumption on the part of the interviewer. I've poked around on Amazon.com and read reviews of Hyatt's books. I'm definitely interested in talking with him, though I'll probably wait a while to extend an invitation as I've got a lot of folks "in the pipeline" whom I have yet to actually get on the phone and on the show.
Thanks again for the lead.
Hey, Weeyots Watcher.
Thank you for the suggestions. I'm sure A. Andrew Gonzalez would make a return appearance. Do you have any specific questions you'd like me to ask him?
I used to have quite a bit of contact with Howard Bloom back in the 90's. I invited him to appear on the podcast when I was just getting started with them, and he did not reply to my email.
I invited Marc Pesce last year. At first he said yes, but when I tried to arrange the specific time for the conversation he stopped answering my emails. Not sure what to make of that. Same with Daniel Pinchbeck.
I usually don't bother inviting folks as famous as Wade Davis, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to try.
The other folks you mentioned I'm not familiar with. I'll check out the links you provided.
Thanks again.

No, I suppose I don't really have any specific questions in mind....I just wanted to hear him keep talking.
I figured those suggestions would be longshots, but I thought that if you had the chance.....it would be so very cool to hear. I saw a picture of you with Howard Bloom on your livejournal and got excited, thinking "maybe KMO can get this guy on the phone and explain when reinventing capitalism will be released".
If you were to talk to Thomas Homer-Dixon again, I'd love to hear his thoughts on how communities can create and maintain local currencies. BTW the show is excellent, I've been very impressed with what you've done. Keep up the great work!

Hey KMO,
I would love to hear you interview Bill McKibben - author of "Deep Economy - The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future". Finished reading this fascinating book a couple months back. I was really excited when you later mentioned that you were reading this too and would likely be discussing some of the ideas on the C-Realm.
Cheers,
Milan
Hey Milan,
I invited Bill McKibben to participate in the podcast just as soon as I started reading his book. He replied with:
hey there--thanks for the work you do.
life is too nuts for me to schedule anything right now--we're putting
together a big national day of climate protest at the moment. it'll be
done by november, so you could write back then perhaps?--bill
So, there is hope.
