i hear some people rail slightly against booze sometimes on the podcasts and in the emails....what are everyones beliefs about drinking beers....

i quite enjoy beer...i grew up in a very irish american family and beer was every where constantly....i had my first beer at the age of maybe 7...i asked my father what it was he was drinking and could i have one...it was a horrible beer called carlings black lable...not to be confused with the european black lable beer...this stuff is horse piss at best....but its cheap and my folks didnt (and still dont) have a lot of money....so it appears my dad was a quantity versus quality guy....for the hollidays he would buy bass ale...my dad told me beer is fine but spirits (ie hard alchohol is to be avoided...i still hold his philosophy....i dont care if others drink it but i personally am a beer guy)

anyhow im 37 and love drinking beer...i drink about 4 pints give or take a night and find nothing wrong with it....my friend at the health food store said its fine and that im self medicating cause i have a very fast metabolisim and am very active so its just a way of slowing down and ending my day.

i grew up with my family owning a pub so once again i have always been around drinking...i believe beer has been being brewed for 1000s and thousands of years....i find it an inciteful allie that conjours up all sorts of psychedelic though...allthough i must admit that when i drink i smoke herb and cigarettes so that could be it...lol

what do you guys and gals think

i dont have a problem with other people drinking but have not had a drink for 10 months and 11 days after 20 years of being an alcoholic

drink in moderation as with anything is fine very sociable drug

not every one can drink in moderation me included

one small glass of brandy now and id finish the bottle and be looking for the next one

so my solution is not drink at all

ive been smoking weed since 15 and im now 37 so i just stick to the herb

i also found when i drunk id eat valium like sweets smoke crack snort coke and anything else i could get hold of

not any more

have a drink for me :)

I don't have anything against drinking, but I'm really taking a break from it after last year where I feel like I exceeding my personal limit. Actually I guess I've been taking a bit of a break from everything.
I still drink every once in a while, and it's usually fun, but I've had many negative experiences while drunk that happened because I wasn't in my right mind.
I don't have anything against drinking, but I do get annoyed when someone is condemning me for the consumption of other drugs while pouring themselves some shots! (It's happened :p)

I used to drink alot when I was younger but rarely do now. For some reason even a couple of beers gives me a hangover within a couple hours.(could be the wheat allergy)

Lion, the counselors of the rehab I was forced to go to (for herb) would say you are a maintenance alcoholic. Drinking just enough to keep the alcohol level sustained. However the counselors didn't like me very much as I continued to preach the silliness of herb and shrooms being considered "drugs" in the same class as the ones everyone else was there for.

As long as a substinance is not affecting your life negatively then I personally don't see the problem with it.

I prefer hard A or wine, as long as I can control my consumption level. Which I am much better at these days!

i'm not a big drinker but appreciate fine wines and have a small but mature collection of aussie and nz reds. also dabble in some amateur home brewing so i also love and appreciate good beer...

i've never been one to abuse alcohol but do enjoy wine tastings and my recent journey into beer & food matching has opened many more doors on the palate, so to speak!

having said that, the old stoner adage can still be applied to my vapin and drinkin (especially as Oz approaches our Summer!):

bong before before, and you're in the clear,
beer before bong, and it's all wrong!

Shit that's uncanny BB, after reading the first post I was going to way-in with my point of view, and there you even had a ditty which puts it perfectly.
I tend to have toke and a little later cold beer, I try and keep a limit on the beers as things can get very mashed. Keep the tapas coming too.

I used to enjoy a drink or 2 but since getting a stomach condition i've had to completely give up.

I dont miss it much at all....until im out with all my friends who drink a little......its no fun being the only sober person amongst a group of loud, smelly breathed drunks trying to hug you cos your they're "brother" :D:D

I got a rather drunk last night, and I really didn't like it. I just felt really numb, emotionally and physically, which was horrible. I pretty much wanted to be sober the whole time... and looking back allot of my drunk experiences have been like that. Has anyone else ever felt like this? I guess alcohol, like any drug can be completely different for everyone else. Anyone I've spoken to in real life has only raved about how much they love alcohol.

Yeah, alcohol is a really heavy-duty drug, in order to control it you need to be in a really strict and sensible mindset and the catch-22 is that when you need to be strict and sensible you're not and so can't stop and stupor happens.
Taking herb before is the only way to drink IMO, takes the aggressive edge off it. Herb is a key which opens and makes love to your brain. Alcohol is a foul tasting colourless chemical liquid which messes it up.

I drank alot from the age of 15 to 25. Peaking at university when I reckon I had about 8 pints a day on average.

A couple of years ago I told myself I couldn't justify two vices weed and beer and so made the decision to pretty much give up to booze in favour of the good lady mary jane. (and lost almost 3 stone as a result!)

With giving up the booze meant avoiding the pub (I too hate being sober even worse stoned around drunk people). I soon realised that I was no longer seeing most of my friends any longer as the only time we all met up was on a Friday night. Luckily I found some new friends (mostly stoners)

I'm not totally against booze (love Urdinger dark mmm) but when I see the destruction it causes, lives ruined, deaths etc I just feel the world would be a better place without it.

Oh and I've had the worse whitey of all time once after downing 5 cans of export and then smokin a turbo kif charged spliff. Don't do it kids!

For myself, I enjoyed booze. But then came an epiphany (for me). Booze made me tired, sleepy and lethargic (great relaxation). Weed gave me a certain amount of control based on blend and strain. (Generally speaking) I have a sativa I like when I am doing things during the day but do not want to get bogged down. I have an indica bland I like in the evening when I have pain associated with my illness. Seems to me that having this type of control over how to manage my experience and my pain is a huge plus over just the idea of how drunk am I and will I just fall asleep during an activity.

And I had brewed beer in the past, and now grow a small amount of personal stash. It is somehow more satisfying to medicate using what you have cared for in your garden, much like the salad tasting better with tomatoes from your own garden.

My 2 cents (now valued at .023 cents)

I don't think alcohol and weed together is a good idea as it's given me psychotic episodes in the past when i was younger. Yeah i like the occasional beer too.
