Does anyone know if Amanita Muscaria mushrooms can be grown using the general methods most of us use? I have seen the spoors up for grabs but was holding back because they are so different looking then most of the other shrooms I have seen.

Where are you in general. They grow by the tons in most places. I know that in the great lakes region they are mostly yellow, but in the south they are red.

Yeah, they're considered a cosmopolitan species...which means they will grow almost anywhere as long as conditions are right. I sometimes find them growing wild in the park near my house. They will normally be found under or very near proximity to pine trees, as they have a symbiotic relationship with them. Be careful though, they can be easily mistaken for other similar species, so get a field guide as a start if you're gonna go searching.

Yeah this is the time of year huh? I almost forgot, how time flies! Actually, I think I'm seeing white ones right now. I would trust it though. I haven't seen white ones in my little research. I just have known all my life what they were up north, so I wasn't worried. But here, every day I see white ones that match the pattern.

Well I am in the south, on the Gulf Coast...in a city hard hit by IKE. I will not be looking for them in the wild, I saw the spores for sell on a website I have bought from before.

im not saying dont eat amanita muscaria but ill tell you what they did to me, after I ate them my vision went all fuzzy and blurry for an hour or so, not fun or enlightening. three days after you eat them you will have horrific stomach pain, Im talking SERIOUS PAIN it lasts for a few hours. I don't think ill ever eat them again psylicybe mushrooms are so much better in every respect. I would possibly try a muscaria extract, but never whole mushrooms again
also I had a very interesting experience smoking amanita muscaria. the effects are similar to cannabis but without any of that "damn it what were we just talking about" effect many of us experience. the effects only last about 30 or 45 seconds so its kind of short lived but its definitely worth more investigation.
im interested smoking them again but its not at the top of my list

Amanitas grow in symbiosis with trees. I think one guy had a bit of success cultivating them with young tree seedlings. It is insanely difficult and you'd have a better chance finding them in the wild.

Read up on them before you eat them. I have some that are dried that I ordered because they are legal. I've taken them with some good effect and not too much ill effect (no more than other psychedelic mushrooms which often bother me at first) but I think these have to be dry, you can only eat the caps and you may need to shave off parts of the dried cap. I don't have time to look it up, but the info is at http://www.erowid.org/

I've also smoked amanita muscaria and thought it was OK. I've also smoked dried psyliciban mushrooms and felt something. That's also my favorite way to do cocaine, which I rarely do, but when I do, I mix in a bit into a bowl of weed, tastes a bit like soda but gives a nice extra kick.
So I freebase mushrooms, sue me.

ok I think I will go ahead and buy some other type of spores. Had some luck with my second syringe. Grew some mushies but not very many and now the 2 cakes out of 8 that actually made it to the production stage are getting old and infected. Good learning XP.
Any suggestions on a good strain to buy?

personaly I like the tazmanian variety because the mycellium is such an agressive colonizer, the faster it grows the less likely something else will get a foothold in your jar. the treasure coast variety takes a really long time to colonize so id stay away from them

I read somewhere that you can't effectively smoke mushrooms. Something about the heat destroying the active ingredient.

yeah psilocybin apparently disintegrates at around 140C, the end of a joint is around 300C
but i have heard numerous reports of people who have tried smoking mushrooms and say they got some kind of effect from it
also, Terence Mckenna said in one of his lectures that if you take Syrian Rue first (and presumably any MAOI) then you can smoke mushrooms and get an effect

I've gotten effects from smoking mushrooms, it came on fast, but wasn't very strong or long lasting.
