Yep. Thats it guys, apparently the health minister has decided and will announce it publically later this week.

Real shame to put these back into the hands of criminals.

Where did you read this? I was in Amsterdam at the weekend and spoke to smart shop owners who said this would only apply to dry shrooms.

Minister to ban magic mushroom sales
Wednesday 10 October 2007

Health minister Ab Klink is preparing to ban the sale of hallucinogenic mushrooms following a string of incidents involving foreign tourists, the AD newspaper reports on Wednesday.

Sources told the paper that a final decision will be taken this week. A majority of MPs have already called for a ban. The sale of dried mushrooms is illegal under the opium laws but fresh mushrooms are widely available at so-called smart shops.

According to Amsterdam health service figures, ambulances were called out to deal with mushroom-takers 128 times last year.

I wonder how many times ambulances were called for booze related inicdents. Assholes. Regulate it better, and don't sell em to kids.

128 times in a year can't possibly hold a candle to the drunkards. Regulate indeed. It would be interesting to know how many of those were over the age of 21, or 18 or whatever. Funny how they leave out the facts that would make or an objective debate and solution. So now, kids will get mushrooms made by who knows what and in no known dosage. Granted, My country needs to get a few things straight in the drug policy arena, but I thought they were the example of reasonable legislature.

1 every 3 days:eek:

why not just up the age limit rather than banning them? min age 21 or 25 with some sort of id needed

Here's another news story on it. Interestingly, the reporters email is at the bottom for people to get in touch with them. Maybe we should talk to these people and spread some REAL information towards them.

What winds me up about the Bloomsburg "news story" is how did they track down this guy? And what are the chances that all in his group had the same nightmare of a time......highly unlikely all round......all sounds rather suspect to me and fictititious.

Good (ish) news people.

A guy I know who has a mushroom-centred business in Holland sent me this email:

Well... there was 1 source from a journalist who said that he heard
from reliable sources that itll be illegal soon. Now everyone believes
that and everyone thinks its gonna be illegal.
Apart from that 1 source, noone has any reliable information outside
of the Ministry.

In case shrooms become banned, it would take at least 6 weeks for that
law to take effect.

shroom on,

Well, I guess it's a further reinforcement of what we all about politicians, it doesn't matter about what's true for these people, they rule with fear and prejudice.

Hi everyone, this is Ali, P-body's brother. Max mentioned my novel in the last podcast. I'm sending him a copy of the manuscript next week so hopefully you'll be hearing more about it soon. It's called Beyond the Basin, I forgot to mention that in my email.

It's really sad what's happening in Holland. From what I've read, most of the people involved in these incidents had a history of mental illness or combined mushrooms with alcohol and other consciousness-dulling substances. Seems it's ok for their sacrament to kill thousands, but when a few ignorant people abuse ours it warrants outright prohibition. I think the best way for entheogen users to fight back is to keep consuming, keep exploring and keep growing. They will never win. Whatever it takes, I'm going to keep treading those mysterious waters with respect, caution and above all love. Peace!

It seems the "bad trips" are out weighing the positive ones. It doesn’t sound good. If worst comes to worst they should make you take some sort of psych test, or keep it away from anyone under 25 f*k it, because psychedelics are not for everyone. The argument that they are not too toxic on your body is good but I think focusing on the psych part of the mushrooms would be best. Somehow adopting tighter rules. This spiritual mushroom should not be confined cuz of naive people.

It’s a shame these events happened.

Well, with people like this taking shrooms in amsterdam, it's no wonder the stiffs want them banned:

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/193136/magic_mushrooms_in_amsterdam/

The tripper has eaten 2 packs of shrooms and is sitting with beer drinking lads on a stag weekend. Yes, set and setting and mood taken care of then, bring on the dissolution of the universe and the mind-being of god.

Man he was totally tripping in that video! It does look like he took too much though for being out in public...probably little he could do to care for himself without his friends. What do ya'll think?

I know it's just a "coincidence" but isn't it a bit odd that the results from the psilocybin study on terminal cancer patients was showing such good results?

Is the ban in place yet? Are shrooms still on sale in Holland and if so for how long?
