Acacia obtusifolia is native to Austrailia and is closely related to A. longifolia. Also known as Blunt Leaf Wattle or Stiff Leaf Wattle, obtusifolia is a fast-growing species that can reach nearly 25 feet in height and can tolerate slight frost. It prefers moist, sandy soil with good drainage and good watering. It is found abundantly in areas with high rainfall or around creeks. Obtusifolia’s flowers, which appear as creamy yellow spikes, and its reddened foliage make it an attractive and unique addition to your garden or collection.

Growing Information:

Acaica seeds have a hard seed coat that needs to be softened for germination to occur. Heat some water on a stove without reaching a boil. Pour this hot water on the seeds and let them soak for about 20 minutes. If the water cools you may add some more hot water to keep the temperature up. Some growers will also file down or nick the seed before soaking. Plant the seeds at a depth of 1/8” in a moist, well-draining soil mixture. Germination can be stubborn.

Make sure you scratch the seed. Not all the way through, but leave some good grooves in the shell. Next, well moistened peat moss. After 10 days pull the seed out and see if there is a tap root. If not, leave it there. If the tap root is showing transplant to soil.
