I don't like most metal, but I think you should do the show you want to do. Nobody is paying you, so why not do whatever gives you artistic fulfillment?

i think of the heavy metal podcasts as a litte extra treat ...listening to tunes i dont always get chance to listen to at home ..little memories are a great thing imo ..and thats what these shows give to me .

you could of course do a rotation of genres 1 month have the rock podcast
then electronica
then reggae
but if you ever do a boy band one ill unsubscribe from itunes :D

seriously though theres not much these days that garner my attention musically but i look forward to thursday every week solely because of the show .;);

. MEGADETH (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0kVHX4Eegs)

I love Heavy Metal, but think maybe the shows should have more of stoner thyme. What ever that is?

Lefty, your shows are the bollocks with heavy metal or without heavy metal. Either way you kick out killer tunes and killer comedy.
Listening to Lefty's Lounge and looking forward to Left'y Lounge makes me feel alive.

I must say oldskool heavy metal is the best, Iron maiden, Judas priest, Motorhead, Black sabbath and so on. Those were the days of real music, I also like it a Little bit heavier like Slayer, Morbid angel, Obituary and so on. Metal of all kinds really, be it Death, doom, trash and the other kinds of good old well made original angry at the system music.

Keep on making those Heavy metal shows Lefty:D:D:D

Hey Sttony,

There is plenty of rock/metal out there that is purely for the stoner. Check out these bands:

FU MANCHU - Greatest stoner rock band (imo). They hail from SoCal where they get stoned, write music, surf, get stoned, jam, surf, and get stoned again! Every album is exactly the same as the one before it (so as to not confuse you - ha ha!) and it's all loud, and super fuzzy! Check out "The Action is GO!" for seriously trippy soundscapes mixed in with very groovy, very fuzzy riffs (think Black Sabbath meets Zeppelin meets Black Flag).

Kyuss - The original stoner band whose members went on to form Queens of the Stone Age, Fu Manchu and more.

NEBULA - Space rock meets punk rock, sometimes throwing in a blues spin too.

UNIDA / SLO BURN / HERMANO: All projects by ex vocalist of KYUSS, John Garcia, and amazing groove bassist Scott Reeder.

There are more obvious stoner bands out there but they don't cut the mustard like the bands above. These bands are "Orange Goblin" and "Bongzilla"!

For more of a stoner-metal edge check out bands like Black Label Society.

Stoner rock is not the most intellectual stuff out there, but it's great to put it on loud and feel the music when stoned. Awesome stuff!

depends on your take on 'stoner' really.

firstly, check out Blood Island Raiders. Mates band.

i regard stuff like My Dying Bride, NON, Sun (0))), Emperor, White Zombie to be stoner because of what you hear in it. Many a time i've been off my box, listening to tunes on headphones (the best way.. buy some decent cans) and drifted off. WZ, Astro Creep 2000 is trippy as hell. Any Empror album has LOADs of atmos and 'hidden' harmonies etc.

one of my fave albums to listen to when stoned is CoF's V Empire. no where near what is classed as 'stoner'.

IMO, any music is stoner music IF it was (partly) written stoned or with stoned influences. one of my bands is not a stoner band, but fucking hell were we whipped when we wrote alot of our tunes. Since 2 of the guitarists have cut back..we've stopped writing as much. frustrating for me as i 'only' play drums (i do programming and stuff too though) so I find it difficult to write for guitars etc. drums, synths etc, no problem... anyway, i digress..

again, IMO, if you want to be a tr00, kvlt stoner band, your songs should be about weed, psychedelic trips etc... these so called stoner bands are just juiced up r&r bands singing about birds and booze. nowt wrong with it, but it annoys me that 'stoner' is so easily used to label bands, and as a result, i'm not a fan of 'stoner' music. yes, this contradicts my previous statement up there... but... this kind of illustrates how broad 'stoner' can cover and how relevant it is to music and genre.

i think... have i just confused myself maybe? no..

i regard those bands as stoner, but, to be tr00 kvlt stoner, yours should...

yes, that makes sense :)

btw, Metallica last night was cool.
