I'm planning on having a mushroom nature trip with a friend soon. It will be my first time tripping during the day and outdoors. :D
I'm curious about the actual dose to take. Is it just different for everyone, or can I take a certain amount and expect a certain strength of trip? I have done them a few times in the past and I always felt very sure I could handle more. The most I've taken at once was almost 1/4 oz.
I'd like to do about 1/4 this time but ideally I'd like to get a powerful meaningful trip, so maybe I should do a little more?

A heroic dose is considered 5 grams of dried or around 60g wet... though like you said everyone is different. For me a good medium trip would be around 30g of wet mushrooms. Who knows though, maybe one person's heroic is another person's light walk in the park. It's impossible to quantify trip experiences. Maybe you should ask the mushroom... Hold your hand over the mushrooms, close your eyes and relax, then allow the quantity to come to you. I know that sounds like the ramblings of a new age space cadet, but just give it a go (and let me know if it works :D) Hope you have fun

I'll be taking some dried cubensis. According to wiki a heavy dose is 3.5g which makes sense for someone that is unfamiliar with psychedelics or might have the wrong sort of mind set. 5g seems a little low to me to be called a heroic dose but I'll buy that. I believe with mushrooms it's all about the circumstances, and especially the mind set. You definitely have to bow out and let the mushrooms kind of take over and steer the way, just roll with it and enjoy. So with that in mind I am soon going to embark on a 7g(+) koopa trip. :D
Any advice?

Fore a 7+ gram trip you should have a sitter near by, not necessarily in the same room or if outside not by your side all the time but nearby. The trip is your's and just between you, the shroom and mother nature. But the sitter is there to ensure that no outside interference disturbs the "rites", and to guide you in to better states of mind if you start to freak out. I do some times feel the intense light of a summer day to interfere with the trip, and do think doing it in the afternoon or evening is better. But each to his own, what works for me may not work for others. And It is probably a good idea to have a clean week before the trip, no alcohol. Perhaps you should do some light meditation or reflections during the time leading up to the event, I find this to be like toning your trip muscles, and generally live more consciously than you usually do. One more advice before I go, it may be a good idea to take with you a crystal something you can imprint with the learning's of this event, something to help you remember the magic, some thing to record the voice of the shroom.
Have a safe and magical journey :D
