How do you post and use the web anonymously

I think this may have been covered here somewhere but I have been unable to find the post. I want to know specifically what others are doing to keep their anonymity safe. Are there any recommended proxie programs or perhaps things I don't even know about. I was listening to some early dopecasts about the whole overgrow.com debacle and decided to find the best way to surf safely. Any advice or help would be awesome, thanks you guys rock!
