I’d like to ask for some help from the members in developing my grow room.

Below are the specs I have to deal with.

Primary growing goal: To develop a “wine cellar” of dope. With a variety of seeds brought from Amsterdam I want to taste the finest weed grown by my own hand.:p

Secondary goal: To produce an excess of 5 – 10 oz per month for dear friends.

$: I have between $1000 ~ 2000 USD to spend on the whole setup

Room size:
187cm wide
273cm long

Room Design & Lights:
I’m going to build a wall and split the room in two.
- First room being 173cm long X 187cm wide (the veg room)
o 1 ~ 400W light (MH)
o 1 ~ 30W Florescent (for seedlings and clones)

- Second one being 100cm long X 187cm wide (the flower room).
o 1 ~ 400W light (HPS)

Air Flow
- 4 “box” fans.
1. draw air into the Veg room
2. force air out of the Flower room
3. & 4. Will push exchange air between the flower and veg room.
- I’ll also have two circulating fans in both the veg and flower room.
- One small air conditioner.

Question (Air Flow): 4 box fans and 2 circulating fans, do I really need an air con? Will 2 ~ 400W lights get the rooms too hot? Even if the fans are on 18hours a day?

Seeds: I’ve currently got 5 different breeds from “Dutch Passion”
- Master Kush (indica)
- Super Haze (Sativa)
- Skunk #1 (Sativa)
- White Widow (Indica/Sativa)
- Purple #1 (Indica/Sativa)
- Local bag seed (which is a pretty good Sativa)
I think this selection should give me a nice taste of high quality smoke.

Growing Medium:
I live in a country where I won’t be able to get a hold of hydroponic supplements and I don’t feel comfortable ordering them through the mail. So, I’ll be growing in dirt. I will have access to a number of local man made supplements and I’ll just have to trust that they are what they say they are.

Question:
On the Veg side, I want
- 2 or 3 mothers.
- Develop 2 or 3 new seeds (in the interest of science)
- 6 – 12 clones.
Do I have enough light to do this? 0
Do I have enough light to produce 6 ~ 10oz on average per month?
Can you make any suggestions that will make my job easy and/or produce better bud I’d be all ears.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely

ProfessorO

I just have a few comments.

It will be difficult to get monthly harvests from a grow with only 1 400w light in the flower room. because a 400w should be with in about 16 inches of the plant tops it will be difficult to get good results with plants of different heights. Consider 2 400W lamps in flower room, or accept a harvest every 2 to 2.5 months.

U should b able to pull about 7 to 14 ounces per 400w light every 2 to 2.5 months.

You don't mention odor control. Is it that you don't have to worry that neighbors will smell pot odor from your room 24/7/365? This hobby really stinks up the joint.

Not enough info to advise on necessity of an AC. What are the temps in the room normally? I have a space with an ambient of about 77°C this time of year. With a 400W lamp and about 100CFM of ventilation the temp goes to about 32°C.

In the space I've described already, how would you organize a flower room with 2 ~ 400W HPS? (don't forget I want to have a veg room with a couple of mothers and a few other ladies comming up.) I like the idea of having two, I'm just not sure I've got the space.

Odor control is something I'm not too worried about. The room is well located in a secure area. I will do a few things around the house (2 well placed inoizors, some insence and some other scents added in). So, I think that problem is taken care of.

7 to 14 ounces per 400w light every 2 to 2.5 months is OK... I've got a small outdoor garden where I'm hoping to grow a couple of ladies... so with both indoor and outdoor I'll be well within my target numbers.

I'm in a hot climate and I'm sure the room gets quite warm... While making my diagram of the room I was started thinking that there are so many fans, in such a small space, maybe I can get away without the air con...

Any way, thanks for your help.

I have 2 fans that need to be light proofed, in my new grow room.
1) pushes air into the Veg room from outside
2) pushes air out of the Veg room to ouside

The fans I've seen around town are the "box" or "fart" fans. The problem is, I'm not sure how I can light proof 'em?
Any suggestions?

Sometimes I run 2 400W hps over a 3" x 3" space. Look around for my thread, this room had the 2 400s in there. http://www.thegrowreport.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=3475 )And I have, at times, kept the lights at 2 different heights to compensate for a tall plant or two. I think 2 400W lights may b better than 1 1000W. Cause, 1. more even light over canopy; 2. less heat per light source = light closer to plant top.

Odor control is something I'm not too worried about. The room is well located in a secure area. I will do a few things around the house (2 well placed inoizors, some insence and some other scents added in). So, I think that problem is taken care of..

With due respect to you, you are probably wrong on this point. I was wrong here at first. One day my daughter walked in the front door, her first words were " this place smells like a pot factory" ( man, I haven't heard those words uttered since I was a teenager. My mom used 2 say that. rest her soul.) That was one floor and 3 closed doors away from the grow. Anyway, a several ounce grow WILL stink up the house. U can make a carbon filter yr self.

OK, great. Then forget the second 400W light 4 flower room. No sense adding capital equipment cost + electric cost + heat + cost of bulbs to your hobby unnecessarally.

I would give it a try. Can always add more stuff l8r.

One more thing. Since yr not exaclty following the "rule book" as you are starting out, don't use those Dutch Passion seeds 4 yr first grows. I know it's probably hard not to try. What I mean is u got a somewhat small space. Not using in-line fans. Yr temps will probably b all over the place. No odor control may force u to take the grow down mid way through flower ect, ect.... U will probably need a few runs to get things sorted and dialed-in. Dutch Passion seeds r a terrible thing 2 waste. Start out with the bag seeds.

One more, more thing. That looks like a really great grow room. Light color tile walls, Floor drain. U could really set that sucker up nice! Get a copy of Jorge Cervantes grow bible ( and Gregg Greens if u really want to read a lot)

Your room looks like it would hold about 4 plants at max to full maturity.

You may want to think about setting up a sea of green, maybe that will give your more of a yield. Keep plenty of head room for the heat to move to with out bothering your plants.

you MUST use air cooled hoods or Cool Tubes in that small of an area and the vortex style of fans are the best. Mount at least one 16" oscillation fan on your wall too. That will give you more room space but still move the air around that you must have.

Peace
