I'm trying to book a room for the pig in advance. Which location should I stay at? Uptown, Downtown, or the Beachhostel? I want to be within walking or biking distance to the coffee shops, smart shops, museums, ect.

I haven't stayed at either one, but the BV location is a bit out in the burbs, you'll probably want the Downtown (Nieuwendijk) location.

I as well as many others can vouch for downtown.

Perfectly located near to central station plus many coffee shops nearby, Cafe 420, De Kull, Homegrown Fantasy, Prix D'Ami to name a few.

the beach hotel is a no no (as its the other side of holland and not near amsterdam!

the uptown is south of the city and is best if you plan on going to the park/ museums etc

the downtown (where i stayed at for a week at 420) its a nice place and less than 2 min walk from central station, trams, buses, coffeshops etc

also note. it takes about 10 minutes (or so) to get from downtown to uptown

i think the best thing to do is what i did and get a map mark the places you want to go etc and if most are near downtown then book that one if its more of uptown then book that one

peace

Another vote for downtown....uptown is a little out of town but could be good depending on what you require. And I've heard that the beach one isn't as liberal minded when it comes to smokin the fine herb.

I've stayed at the downtown on 4 separate occasions now in both the dorms (4 bed) and private rooms.

i was having trouble finding a room at the pig. it seems that the weekends are already booked. i opted for the stayokay on vondell park. it should still be good.

ive stayed at stayokay before it is a perfectly good hostel, not quite as good as flying pig but still comfortable and secure

especially if you are going at weekends, you really need to book far ahead to get a place at flying pig
