Flowering light cycle

Hey everyone,

We have 11 of the most beautiful AK-47s that are about 3 weeks away from chop. Here's the rub. I got a business trip at that time. I read that cutting the dark time down to 10 hours will move things along a bit and ripen up the trics a bit faster. Is this bull? Does anyone have experience or advice.

The flower cycle is 12/12, at the end you can cut it back to 10/14 but it will not add more THC. The compound THC is produced by the light cycle not the dark cycle.

You still harvest by the trichombs not the calender. For peak harvest take them when you see 10% to 20% amber VS. cloudy using a 30x lighted pocket microscope.

Remember Amber is past prime and on the side of degrading and dying.

I have just turned things off when I have had to go out of town and left them in the dark. (in soil) They have resumed ok when I get back and turn things back on. The longest I have done this for is 9 days and they were still fine. Usually 3-5 days though. Z, maybe you can weigh in on the ramifications of turning them off that late in flower and then putting them back in 12/12

To mantain the grow when I was away, I used to use a timed irrigation system, now I use my 22yo daughter LOL. Both work well.

Anyway, the harvest is lookin to conflict with an important trip. I was hoping that there was somthing that would riped the grow a week quicker.

Does shuting everything down stop tric ripening??

I'll b gone for a week. I really wanted to get these down b4 I leave for some other reasons.

I'm sure they'll keep until I return. I usually chop at first sign of amber, so an extra week won't hurt things.

You can only go so far when trying to change the way nature wants things done I guess.

Hey Steel,

I'm going to wait till the last minute to decide. I don't have experience with the AK.

The BB I know I will be able to take down b4 I have to leave, probably June 7 or 8. That is turning out to be a reliable 8 week strain. But, the AK looks that it will be a week or 2 behind. If it's 1 week, I'll b able to cut them. If it's 2 weeks, I'll have to decide somthing.

The wife volunteered to take em down in my absence. I may go that way.

Later, I think I take a few hits and ponder this for a bit. I do my very best pondering after a few indica hits.

My white russian (AK x WW) wanted 10 weeks and would have been a crime to take it early.

LOL...a clear thinking Indica buzz. :) Those sativa dominant hybrids just take longer...wait it out if you can, like OB says.

Did you get a whiff of sandalwood yet? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just curious to learn what others experience with the AK aroma. :)

Hi Oldbay - The pistals are starting to wither, about <10% of them I estimate. I'm still fine tuning my ability to judge things, but, based on that, I'm thinkin 1-2 weeks. One week would it at week 9.

Got anything to look at the trics? Even a strong magnifing glass? It does take a lot of the guess work out of it, but some other things you can look such as your hairs turning and also when the swollen calyxes start to deflate a little.

As a shameless plug, the 30x microscopes Z has for donations are the way to go.

I use a regular lab stereo binocular microscope, I like that better than my 30x jewelers loupe. I'll get one of those hand held ones from Z when my finances stabilize. I'd feel better sending money to him than buy at radio shack. I really don't like radio shack. I won't even capitalize the name. basturds.
