WTF??

We be talkin' about ways to eat VapoPoop, the 'aftermath' of vaporization.

Brother DF, I'm afraid I can't give you the goods on amounts and whatnot as I never bothered to weigh or measure anything before or after. But hopefully this post will still provide some food for thought.

I currently use a HotBox vaporizer, which is one of wand/vapour whip style vaporizers. It requires a bit of skill to use, compared to something like a Volcano, and may not extract as much usable 'essence' on the first pass as its ritzy cousin. Nonetheless, this may be of interest to some of you Volcano users as well.

My buddy Eric ("Ganja" on my MySpace friends) gifted me with a couple grams of something nice, but unnamed, to enjoy at Seattle Hempfest. I smoked a little at the festival and vaped most of the rest at home.

I was originally going to eat the once-vaped material, but ended up re-vaping all of it, resulting in twice-vaped VapoPoop that was a dark tan color. I figured since I had already vaped it twice there probably wasn't much THC left for eating, so I had better eat it all in one go to make sure I 'got off.'

Whoops.

I keep my VapoPoop in a half-pint canning jar, the wide-mouthed ones used for PF Tek style shroom growing. To prepare the VP for consumption, I put it in a small sauce pan with boiling water to heat it and melted in around a tablespoon of butter. I mixed the butter and VP for about 3 minutes, and then I added several pieces of organic dark (70% cacao) chocolate and mixed it all together once the chocolate had melted. I was in a hurry, so I put the jar in the freezer to cool for 5 minutes or so, by which time the chocolate/VP mixture was firm enough to pry out of the jar and eat on an empty stomach.

I was somewhat surprised to start feeling things within about 20 minutes. Things were looking good for an evening of cannabinated excess! It occurred to me that I might have been feeling some of the theobromine and caffeine from the chocolate, and I reminded myself not to get too attached to getting really stoned from my impromptu confection.

But by an hour there was absolutely no mistaking--I was definitely baked, and feeling remarkably psychedelic (as is often the case for me when I eat cannabis). And the high was still building. I was ready to crawl into bed if things got too intense--I've had more than one experience of 'overdoing it' when it comes to eating. And mind you, things were getting pretty close by the 90 minute mark. I realized that I could have eaten half and still had a pretty good time. But I'm not complaining. It was fun!

In terms of taste, mixing herb with dark chocolate works very well. In terms of ease-of-preparation, it's way easier than baking something. And the weed adds a nice texture to the whole affair which actually enhances the gustatory experience. Mind you, it was ground twice (once before each pass through the vaporizer) in my Dope Fiend provided 'volcano-branded grindah with extra shahp teeth' so it was pretty fine.

DF on Dopecast #92 speculated on the need for the THC to bind with fat in order to make it more easily assimilated by the gut. I don't know if this is strictly true, although fat might make for easier transport. The thing I heard long ago that was most important is that herb must be subjected to heat at some point, and that you wouldn't want to just eat a dried bud. From what I read back then, the heat converted some of the pre-THC molecules into a more psychoactive form. Without some sort of chromatographic analysis, I'm just talking out my ass at this point as I don't really know organic chemistry well enough to know whether this is true or not. My understanding about hash is that it is usually exposed to some heat when it is being pressed, which might support this theory. But then again, I might be full of shit. I just know that I would rather hedge my bets and include some fat in the process rather than risk not absorbing all that THC goodness.

The groovy thing about using dark chocolate is that it already has fat mixed in, which, combined with butter, makes an excellent matrix with the ground-up VapoPoop.

Enjoy!
