you know I was listening to the dope cast today and I was wondering. Do you prefer vape or smoke. and which ever you like why do you like it more?
for me I love smoke. I do realize the harm it does to my body but I love it. the taste of it and the effect it has on me. somtimes I want that full body stone and full reefer aroma. because (this is a personal belief not fact there has been a lot of studies done showing increased levels on vaping and more levels in smoking vice versa) when you smoke you release more cbn (Cannabinol) i.e. the taste of weed. hence the smell of smoke lingers on stuff. and there is the cbd (Cannabidiol) release which makes you more sedated and I love it when I get more of that in my system before I sleep.
but my most primary method of injestion is vape. but I dont prefer it. why? because its less portable, and its a cleaner high. now this works both for and against me. somtimes I like to get bombed and relax. Where as if I have the day off I have a few areins to do (banking laundry etc) and I got shit to do. The vape stone tends to be more clear headed.
Second I notice less flavor when vaping. I dont know why the dopefiend says you can taste the nuances but there is proof (both for and against) that there is less cbn release in weed.
So I wana hear your experinces and first hand accounts on vaping. Its effects on you. I wana see weather its a case by case business or if I've been smoking for too long.

Well, first off I have only been vaping for a month now, and that is with the vapir one. I know, I know, EVERYONE hates it. I've had good experiences so far though, and got a real good deal so I think it was worth it. Moving on...
I understand what the dopefiend talks about when he mentions more taste in the vapor. I think it is more the fact that you are tasting the pure essence of the herb since the hot air is passing through it. That's not to say there is no taste when burning though. What you taste then is the plant when it is carbonized, and that is a pleasurable taste as well. Since vaporizing, I have smoked once, mainly because I was too lazy to fire up the vapir. I enjoyed the high a lot, but I wouldn't say I preferred it. I think for me, it felt more familiar, since I've been smoking for a while now, and the high felt nicer and "warmer" to me. It reminded me of why I grew to love the herb.
Don't get me wrong, I love vapor though. Like you said, though, they are often two different highs. Being able to only acquire cheap commercial stuff here, it is definetely a step up. After vaping one night, I said that the high felt sharp and almost painful at first. It appeared to cut into the night itself. There is always this feeling when I first vape, this very intense and clear high, which quickly rolls on into a nice pleasant euphoria. When I take about 3 or 4 hits from a bag, I notice that the high comes in waves, as if the hits are each taking a little more time to smack into my brain. This is probably the case. On the flip side, when smoking it all creeps up and then bam, I'm fully into it. Smoking makes me want to sit and be entertained, where as vaporizing leads to a lot more movement and discussion. Or maybe I've just been getting better stuff lately :)
I'm glad I joined the revolution though, since it has made my lungs and my body in general feel lighter and more at ease. I'm open to our sacrament in all its forms though. Let's be honest, you're gonna feel pretty freakin fantastic no matter what you do!

I've never been a real fan of tobacco but for many years I smoked joints the european way ie with tobacco.Eventually I just started hating the affects tobacco had on me and moved to pipes and bongs. But I started to notice that they started to get to my throat in a negative way.I am into something called the Alexander Technique which places great emphasis on the head neck back, this relationship influences how free and supple the whole body is.If I had a pipe or bong session my throat would clamp up the next day and I would find myself noticeably stiffer than if I hadn't smoked.
I even stopped smoking for around 5-8 years just eating which I found great. Then I heard about the vapourizer and haven't looked back.
It is much gentler on my throat and the taste is much cleaner to the extent that I can tell differant strains and blends.I can vary the temperature which changes the affect and taste too.My theory is the the heavier feeling that I got with smoking/burning may have something to do with the carbon monoxide and other impurities that are inhaled when anything is burnt...I may be wrong there but that is my theory at the moment.
I am such a fan of the vapourizer that on many occasions I will do without if only joints and pipes are around.Thats how much I prefer it.
I've often wondered if this is something to do with my age not that I am ancient but I remember when I was in my 20's I would smoke anything joints, hot knives pipe bongs....I look back now and think if I did that now my throat/lungs would be well f*****d

Vapor only for me here, and its been that way for some time now. Smoke to me now tastes thick, putrid and smells rank. It only gets me half stoned- in the eyes only (eyes feel heavy) Even a pure spliff tastes of pure paper. Since owning a volcano i see no reason to pollute myself (and others around me) with total poisons from smoking. Plus the fact that it whacks me out of my brain- i think i know what i prefer! Smoking is a caveman sport and this is the 21st century! Peace all.

I completely agree wegface, I only smoke now if ther's no option, and I'm in the process of making some "green dragon" cannabis tincture so I can rule it out once and forever.
Joints don't get me anywhere near as high as vape, all I can taste is thick heavy smoke, and I'm coughing for days afterwards. With vape I can taste every little subtle difference in the flavour of the weed: I don't understand how hudson can say it's flavourless! It's obviously much more subtle than smoke, but it's a much lighter, fresher taste and much easier to differentiate between strains etc.

thats considered very taboo in the Canadian toking community. if your ever to do that specificly state that because someone will curse you out for it. I've done it only once when I was 17. terrible! its only a money saver nothing more.

ummm. didnt say flavorless dopefiend. I said LESS flavor. I only notice the taste maybe a bag and a half. thats really it. I don't know how you could mix that up, maybe its the subtle nuances between canadian and uk english if thats so I appologize. Id be lying and say vapor was flavorless.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didnt you smoke tobbaco dopefiend? I hate tobbaco the smell taste etc. I wont even smoke blunts or batch joints (weed tobbaco mix).
Maybe tobbaco somking has something to do with it. I've never really consumed more than say half an oz of tobbaco in my lifetime and I have to say weed smoke doesn't bother me that much.
I however since switching primarily to vape I've noticed a big diffrence health wise. I can run longer distances, I have completly eliminated my tokers cough, as well as cut my weed bill in half. So there are some obvious benefits to it. I'm sure when I'm older I would have to quit smoking. Carbon isn't good for your lungs. Even though I am confident (because no one has ever found a link between pure cannabis smoke to cancer) I won't get a cancer or ephasiema. In fact cannabis stimulates the cilia. My aunt did vape and smoke when she was dying of lung cancer. she would say that smoking helped her breath easier and feel more relaxed. this was especially important since she was on steroids to keep her going.
Sure there are benefits to vapor but for me I really enjoy rolling up a joint. I'm a joint guy. Not only rolling up the joint but being able to controll the ammount that goes into your lungs. I liken it to a bag of vapor.
Maybe its just me and my 23 year old lungs. anyone here younger than me that prefers vape?

1) Better taste (purple trainwreck vaporized tastes like jasmine, GLORIOUS!)
2) Use less, save a lot of $$$ because you use less. It's a sin to have to spend money on cannabis (in a just world, you would be able to buy it at Safeway)
3) BETTER, CLEARER, BIGGER HIGH. I can get 4 good vape sessions in one day. And I can do it all through the day. Sativa in the morning, hybrid in the afternoon, and indica in the evening. My tolerance from vaporization is at a level where it has little more effect on me than a cup of tea. This is ideal for any regular medical patient.
Vaporization has been my preferred method for...shit.... SEVEN years now.
Thing about vaporization is that it can easily be incorporated into a healthy lifestyle. I like to vape a nice hybrid (sativa dominant) in the afternoon, have a little brownie, and go for a solid run. Like 2-3 miles. Could never imagine doing that after smoking.
Smoking cannabis seems in my personal opinion to be the most crude way to use it. If you look at cannabis use through history, particularly in medieval India, where cannabis was first used for recreation as well as medicine - these Princes would grow "ganga" (aka sinsemilla), make it into a nice hash, and put it under charcoal in a hookah. That system is basically a vaporizer-bong, as you see in the picture above.
Vaporization is the future. If more people did it, it would change the image of cannabis consumers.
peace!

for my c.o.p.d.s. smoking tobacco for thirty years (and twenty-eight being menthol)...i switches to menthol cigs when i started smoking reefer and just till the vapir one v-4.0, {just talked with frank bartlescheck from vapir and the new v-5.o has an even stronger quieter fan. there was no improvements on the table model, but since stopping smoking and now vaping my lungs expell impossible to cough up phleem and i breathe deeper and everything not only tastes better it smells better too. my wheezing isn't as bad now as before. i'll always vape...its the smart thing to do.}

Ive been smoking for a while now and love it, i love the playing with the smoke in ways you can't with vapor but i realize the harm it causes to my lungs... I have recently been looking in buying a vaporizer and getting one off of the internet is out of the question, at nearby head shops they only have two kinds of vaporizers, the volcano, which is out of my price range or the hotbox vaporizer. Ive smoked out of my friends hotbox but i want to know from a long time user if its really worth spending the 175 dollars

I'm a big fan of the box vaporizers. Personally I use a VaporBrothers Hands Free.
http://www.vaporbrothers.com/
Costs about $150, available on Ebay or any good head shop. I even grind the vapor leftovers and make brownies.
Plus it takes me 1 week to go through a gram. I used to go through an 1/8th a week. Vaporizers pay for themselves after a few months.
NB: Keep your vapor whip clean! A clean vapor whip is easy, but it takes some dilligence. You wouldn't want to eat off a dirty plate, why use a dirty whip? The flavor is always fresher off a clean whip, and its really easy to inhale.
in solidarity.
peace.

not a big fan of box or "whip" vaporizors. the hot box vaporizor works really well. vapor brothers I've had bad experiences with. You'd be better off going with a vapor daddy if you going to go the wood box approach. I'd just save my money for herbal aire you can find them for 270 before tax on the net. very effective and its a hybrid as well. so if you use to the sucking whip then you can use the tube draw system. or if you like to make things convient for yourself then use the bag system.
all I can say is do your homework and ask around like you just did. you'll be making a wise choice. vapor will change your toking habbits no doubt.

I vapo almost exclusively since I bought the Volcano.
"Almost" exclusively because, in dire circumstances, I'll still smoke, but I really must be at a breaking point. For instance, on vacation last weekend, I was forced to smoke stale, months-old bud out of 2 apples and a nectarine (my hosts were not pot people, but they at least had saved this little nugget of old bud from a party they'd had in spring, and they offered it, so of course I partook).
I've been smoking for 10 years and vaporizing for 6 months, and I have absolutely no sentimentality for the smoke. What many smokers consider to be the superiority of a smoking high, to me, is actually the damage they're doing to their lungs and sinuses. Your brain is deprived of oxygen and your body is slowly dying inside. When you couple these effects with THC, you get a different kind of high, I call it the retarded high.
However, with a quality vaporizer or strong cannabutter, you get what I call the shamanic high, the lucid high, the yoga high. Your body, while still mildly irritated, isn't fighting for its life, and your brain is free to explore consciousness hand in hand with its friend THC, marching down the merry rainbow gumdrop avenues of reality without a care in the world.
Of course, in the end, I'd rather be stoned than not, but if you pass me a blunt after I've finished a bag of vapor, I'll kindly decline.

to make this quick and dirty, i'm a smoker by trade not choice. i deliver pizzas and after 3 years the only way i can still drive those streets is to smoke on my chillum. i know dopefiend, its not for everyone but some people are capable of doing it well.
however two friends of mine recently went in on a volcano and i got the royal pleasure of partaking with them. before your podcast i wouldn't have known what a vaporizer or a volcano but as soon as he mentioned it my eyes lit up! i felt like i struck gold!
so as we are setting it up i'm telling them all the tips i've picked up from you about temp etc but never been able to use myself. and i thought it was going to be useless knowledge..! after 3 bags of some decent commercial we were floating.
one side note: i heard a listener mention the vapor tastes like popcorn. i thought i was alone in this, but no, it tastes like buttery popcorn!! why oh why does a $500 machine make weed taste like popcorn?! i could taste even hours later in the back of my mouth.. popcorn. a mystery to me.. any light?
now a quick anedote.. these two order food from my pizza place sometimes and i quickly snatch the order up when i can.. there is usually a bag of vapor waiting as a tip! i'll kill that one and pack one of my own just to make sure the deed is done and damn is that volcano effective!!
i have never felt so senseless in my delivering career. i went back to the store and everyone just glanced at me and gave me that knowing smile.. even a customer. once i got back on the road i was fucked. not impaired per se but totally not focused on where i had to go. i was essentially just driving around listening to the dopecast without a care in the world. when i finally snapped back in to the world i look to my passenger seat and see two pizzas bags still full. i was NO WHERE near either of them.. ridiculous.
i just laughed and hurried up.. but i've never gotten like this off my chillum
good times
and to many more... cheers

Take care on those roads Pablo Rasta!!
I've had the Volcano for almost a year now but find myself cycling in between joints rolled with tobacco (the Aussie way too!) and the Volcano.
Firstly, I mainly smoke in the evenings, to quieten my mind after a long day of the corporate world, training martial arts or simply going to the gym.
I don't know what it is but sometimes I prefer the process of rolling a joint and practicing my skills as well as being able to sit outside and look up at the night sky while smoking my joint (no smoking inside at my place)....the moon is like a shining, white pearl and I like to sit out there enjoying it's glow. (Plus, the neighbourhood cats know when I'm tokin' 'cos they come to say hello too).
Apart from that, I find I smoke when I want that heady, whole-body stone - either just before I've gone to bed or to calm me down after a strenuous and aggressive Martial Arts class....
If on the other hand, I'm having a quiet night in after work (very rare) then I'll fire up the Volcano straight away which allows me to get other things done with a clear(er) mind and a much lighter feeling to my body.
I train at a gym 4-5 days a week but since giving up smoking cigarettes about 5 years ago, I no longer have any problems with my lungs even when I've smoked a few joints the night before.
I think I have a fair way to go to giving up joints all together and now suspect my difficulty lies in the tobacco which I use to form the inner structure of my joint (still using the packet of excellent Javanese Jongens tobacco which Dopefiend recommended in Amsterdam!)...
As a result of this thread, I am going to see the effect of limiting myself to 1 joint per week and Volcano exclusively every other time....

awww just one? for me I still smoke. BB sounds like you exercise a lot. something I really don't do. I'm more into cardio, walking, and swimming. But when I was smoking heavily I had a smokers caugh. How I do it is that after work I come home and hit my herbal aire. vaporizing during my work periods (I don't work more than 3 shifts in a row there all 12 hours) that way I give my lungs a break. plus there is no burn out when I wake up. I just can't get over the portability of joints.
as for mixing your joints with tobbaco don't do it. I don't know why people do it. it takes away from the taste. I mean I use to smoke blunts and I got a hell of a smokers caugh. if you want to "botch" (canadian word for mixing your weed in a joint) dameina (sp?) you can find it in almost any head shop. its like a very very very mild form of weed. taste sweet too. nobody knows about it. not even erowid has it listed. but ask around. haven't heard its been baned anywhere.
but I try mainly to stick to vapor because of the health implications.

Thanks Hudsonrulez!
Love the term 'botch' ha ha!
I find that smoking a straight green joint (in all it's glorious portability) is way too harsh on my throat plus, it doesn't stay lit! But having said that, I do have a few packets of mix that you described that I bought from a Happy High Herbal shop which I can use to mix in but I guess I look at the tobacco and the herbal mix and always go the tobacco - but I'm going to make an effort this week to try out the other stuff.
I think I've seen the Damiana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damiana)you speak of in the same Herbal shop (also sells a DreaMTime mix) - I did end up finding it on erowid (http://www.erowid.org/herbs/damiana/)...it seems it can be used as a tonic for many things including coughs and emphysema! Hrmm...not sure how effective it is when it's being burnt though! :) :)
