View Full Version : Any Home Brewers?

Just throwing it out there.
I have been brewing off and on for about a decade. I brew all grain and whole hops, and have also brewed mead as well and a mix of the two. My house best is an oatmeal stout and it is dispensed from the old style 5 gallon soda kegs pushed out of a converted chest freezer by CO2. It is a good way to wash out some cotton mouth. I do bottle some as keepers as well. Much like anything else, with a little work (if you call it that as I truly enjoy it) what you can make for yourself will always be way better than what you can get at the store.
Even though mass and micro brews are freely available there is still an active home brewing community that had to also take great strides to get the legal right to do so, and I hope one day to have the same great types of people participating in a fully legal and open growing community. I am sure whatever Marlboro comes out with will be no better than a fresher brick weed with no taste or aroma. (smokable budweiser anyone?)

If anyone is interested in a decent bit of info to "get your feet wet" a wonderful free resource site is www.howtobrew.com

I brew a cherry wine that can compete with the best; it’s strong and tasty, perfect when chilled. Sadly I haw only 2 bottles left of the 2005 year batch; I am saving them for a special occasion. Even more sadly is the fact that the last seasons have been really bad and I have not been able harvest enough cherries to brew up a new batch. I have given up on brewing with sweet cherries as the results have been rather low quality vine. I am thinking of making some mead, it is one of my favourite homemade vines, and might try something called Aronia a hardy berry much used in Russia, it makes a supposedly very good and healthy wine.
Have you ewer tried flavouring wine with our favourite herb?

I make a very nice lager that is similar in taste to Foster's. The alcohol contect is twice a normal lager too. :p

I havn't tried wine yet and havn't done a brew batch in a while but am thinking about doing a new batch. I do need a name for my beer. Any ideas?

I love Mead. There is a microbrew right down the street from my house that makes an excellent Raspberry Mead.

Tick - You really don't need anything special. Plastic food grade buckets are great for starters so all you really need is a big pot to boil in, and cheap canning pots are available this time of year. Online has all the stuff you need as well. Just a thought.

Mingus - That is good as clean lagers are really the hardest kind of beers to make as every off taste shows up. Your on your own for a name though.

Cereus - I have never made any other kinds of wines, but I don't have any great sources of berries/grapes. Honey was easy enough to grab at the store and I had all the gear from brewing beer.

For those that may end up in parts of the world that may be under the fist of Prohibition here's a couple links to help you out ;)

Am currently drinking my first home brew now which is a Bavarian Lager - bloody nice too for a first-attempt! Here's a vid of the fermentation starting - I was so excited, I uploaded it to YouTube because my colleague at work who has just started, never gets bubbles!!

Next one is getting brewed tonight which will be a Mexican Cerveza!!

I just love sipping on a cold beer (pilseners, ales and lagers) while having a joint!

It was at a brewer's wedding, which was more like a beer festival.
There were more than 15 kegs of different kinds of beer. It was an overnight campout syle wedding. And in the evening after parents and grandparents left the canna beer came out.

It was too much for little me. I remember feeling like I was falling, reaching out and holding onto folks next to me, then I realized that I was already sitting down. We all got pretty hilarious in very short order.

I'm told it requires a couple of pounds to produce it. But then that would depend on the size of the brew system wouldn't it.

Anyone else have experience with canna beer? Has anyone made some?

I have a metal sign at my place for Burke's Hemp Beer but never tried it myself....

Did a search on it a little while ago though and found that it was filtered through hemp and gave it a unique taste but it didn't have a THC content itself.

Star Eye Beer

Would be fun making a label for a beer like that:)

I haven't but if you were to find any info on it, I would be willing to give it a shot on a small scale. I have "dry hopped" before which is putting fresh hops in a filter bag and putting them in the fermenting brew to give it a nice aroma. I wonder about maybe heating the buds a bit in the oven and then doing the same. How cool would it be to give away six packs of home brewed beer that gets you stoned as well. A nice Northern Lights Oatmeal Stout by the fire to get you through the winter  I'm making myself thirsty

Right now im fermenting some gallon jugs of grape juice, apple juice, and also kool aid in my dorm room closet. Its my first time, and i can taste it working. Im glad cuz now i can make alcohol to share with my friends even tho im not legal yet, as they dont partake of the herb.

I did ask about after that wedding and they used trim. I didn't know enough about brewing to ask about the size of the system. They did say it was "dry hopped" with the trim. But shouldn't the herb be heated a bit to release/activate the THC?:o

Yeah, I think so, but it never hurts to try. It is alcohol soluable but I don't think the % isn't high enough in beer.

I highly recommend www.mrbeer.com
They make really easy batches of high quality brews, and they don't require all the equipment that I have used in the past. I even know people "up north" who make it in their dorm rooms with no worries.
Also, for those of you that may be in a place of prohibition or under age, they ship discreetly. Nothing on the box says beer, the company is from a "wellness center". Also, since it's not alcohol, no one needs to prove their age.

I would respectfully disagree, if the prospective brewer has access to brewing supplies or can have them shipped online. A simple (clean new) 5 gallon plastic bucket works wonders as a fermentation tank. It is the kits that ship with that beer that I am not too fond of. Personal opinion, but I can't argue that they are ready made for a beginner to have his/her first batch on the go by lunch. I'm willing to elaborate, and have a fair amount of brewing experience if anyone wants to know. Just ask.

I made psilocybin wine about 15 years ago. We used a mead/barley wine recipe and added approx 5000 Liberty caps to 5 Gallons of wine. That Worked very well.

I agree that a 5 gallon batch would be great, but like I said, in the situation that I am in, a 5 gallon bucket can't be sitting around. The 2.5 gallon batch with no ingredients to store is good in situations where being deported or jailed for mixing yeast and sugar together are a daily possibility.

Plus the smell of a true brew for the hour plus boil is very noticable in apartment buildings.

One day I'll be back in the great NW where I can brew all mash brews and actually have friends over while I do. ;)

This would be fun for someone that has the extra to throw in a batch.

I got that distillation set, but have yet to use it. You know how some projects never take off.
