Greetings Patients and Patient Advocates –
The DEA has put all of California on notice and many Bay Area landlords have recently received the asset forfeiture threat letter that has plagued Los Angeles since summer. In an emergency response press conference coordinated by Axis of Love San Francisco last Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office read a statement from Congressman John Conyers, Jr., chair of the house judiciary committee. Conyers states:
“I am deeply concerned about recent reports that the Drug Enforcement Administration is threatening private landlords with asset forfeiture and possible imprisonment if they refuse to evict organizations legally dispensing medical marijuana to suffering patients. The Committee has already questioned the DEA about its efforts to undermine California state law on this subject and we intend to sharply question this specific tactic as part of our oversight efforts.”
Please help energize our local mayors. Let them know that they must support the recent statements by Congressman Conyers. The mayors must urge the house judiciary committee to begin oversight hearings on the DEA’s tactics immediately. We have no time to lose. Safe access is in serious jeopardy. No asset forfeiture. No more raids. No more arrests.
No more threats.
Educate our mayors about Congressman Conyers’ above public statement.
Encourage our mayors to make public statement in support of the Congressman’s comments and defend our state laws and sanctuary communities! Their public support is vital to protecting our communities.
We need their immediate action.
Please contact these officials this week. Even if you do not live in one of these cities, you probably get your medicine in one of them or have a loved one who does. Your call is equally important because you rely on that community for your safe access.
