2 qts of popcorn innoculated with Z strain Psilocybe cubensis spores.

When they are 100% colonized I crumble them into a tub with 10pounds or 3 inches of poo.

Put the tub in the dark and wait till the poo is 100% colonized.

Then I nuke some coir and vermiculite in the microwave for 2 runs of 3 minutes each. And sprinkle 1/4-1/2 inch of this onto the white colonized poo.

Cover again and place back into the dark for 2-5 more days till you see some white "hairs" poking up through the coir.

When you see an even amount of white showing LIGHTLY through the coir replace the lid with one that is clear and drill holes in the tub for air exchange. If you don't want to make holes in your tub you will need to fan the inside of the tub 4-6 times a day. Make sure the coir does not dry out, and spray lightly if needed.

5-7days later you will see your first baby pins growing....

Coco coir or just coir is found in grow shops and pet stores.

And as for light, on the tub pictured above I have an extra lid that has the center cut out of it and a piece of plexi glass glued in. On other tubs I have just placed a small night light in one of the holes and ran an extension cord to it.
Light is not needed for growth, only as a trigger for fruiting. I have seen christmas lights and rope lights used or just placing the tubs in front of a large window.

I wonder about ways to hold the humidity high and at the same time get enough air exchange for optimal growth. Are ultrasonic humidifiers any good fore a small tub or just usable fore larger terrariums?
I have seen the perlite and perforated tub method and it seems easy and good, but if you do not think you can keep the room the tub stands in free from contaminants, what do you recommend. The mycelium seems very vulnerable to green mould.

I use a casing layer of coco coir to keep the humidity high in my tubs. I will spray with a fine mist sprayer if it seems to dry out but this is not normally needed. The mycelium it self is very resistant to contams. It is the casing layer and uncolonized portions of the substrate that pose contam issues.
