Any one knows why kava kava is illegal now?
Some years ago I started to order some from Hawaii and during two years got several batches. I did not use it to often but found it to be a great addition to my natural medicine cabinet. And the literature on kava said that it vas very safe to use with little chance of addiction. I ones bought a preparation during a big rave in Oslo, but after that it seemed to be made illegal or in to a prescription drug. No doctor I know of will proscribe it in stead of the pharmaceuticals it may replace. Why is it that ones some thing natural is found to actually be effective and a safe alternative it is made illegal or impossible to obtain. And of course it gives you a good feeling when ingested and that may be the real reason the mighty ones takes it away.

Kava isn't illegal, well not in Hawaii where I am. Kava culture is very much alive here, and can be bought in almost any grocery store. I'm not sure about other countries view on Kava though. We even have Kava bars which serve to the public in coconut bowls, it's pretty cool.

Kava is safe and legal. If a Kava product was made illegal it would be most likely be due to the way it was marketed or if it contained an ingredient other then Kava. The FDA has not only banned the sale of dietary or herbal supplements containing ephedrine alkaloids. The FDA also considers any product that is marketed as an illegal street drug alternative to be an unapproved new drug and a misbranded drug in violation of sections 505 and 502 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act), Such violations may result in regulatory action, including seizure and injunction. Last but not least, the kavalactone % may have been too high.
The health issues once associated with Kava were mostly due to herbal supplement manufacturers using stem and leaf parts which contain toxic compounds, primarily Pipermethystine. You want to use only Kava roots, this is traditionally how Kava has been prepared by the indigenous people of the South Pacific Islands. You don't want to habitually consume large amounts of Kava Root or its extract on a regular basis either. It should be used occasionally. Also if one has liver damage, I would recommend abstaining from Kava as well.
Otherwise Kava is great. I love it. :D

I know kava is legal in both USA and Hawaii but I have sadly had big problems obtaining it her in Norway, when I ordered it from Hawaii as usual last time the customs phoned me and told me I needed a proscription to get it delivered. And last summer I visited Amsterdam and tried to obtain it there, no smart shop sold it and even the big herbalist store I visited did not sell it, I asked why and the herbalist told me he believed it was illegal to sell in Holland. I do not know its international status but have read that it is considered a drug of abuse some places, maybe I am wrong. It may get true the customs as Awa but I don’t think so any more.
"Drug" laws is different the world around like catus edulis witch is illegal in Norway and considered a vegetable in England
it is sad but I'll live witout kava, I have other medicines;)

I found some of my old kava in my spice closest the other day and as I am currently taking a cannabis break so I decided that it would be a good idea to putt a healthy teaspoon of kava powder under my tongue. It was a pure joy to experience it again, it feels relaxing and stimulating at the same time. we were watching a action filled show on the TV and the combination of kava and adrenalin was amazing. I hope I will be able to refill my supply some day, until then I will use the remaining grams sparingly.

I got a Kava Kava herbal elixer (1X) and the directions are vague about the dosage, It looks like they are saying 2-3 drops at a time, but the print on the bottle is small and blurry.
Suggestions?

Took the plunge. I meant to do 3 drops but i squirted about 6 into my palm and licked it. Very zingy, nice little rush. Great for getting stuff done, I bet!

I have had kava kava in my medicine cabinet for atleast the last 10 years. It is not illegal or difficult to obtain here. I have found that it may also serve as a mild anti-depressant. But i would tend to avoid taking it with others substances, because its effects tend to be greater. Thx for reminding me it was in there!
